I saw that story yesterday. It reminds me of the recent PETA scandal. At least in NC it's only animal abuse if there is malicious intent, so the PETA operatives were ultimately acquitted. Because they thought the animals were better off dead than in the shelters. Never mind that they deceived people too...
Thus: I'm hoping this disturbed individual gets jail time, but I'm not holding my breath.
Pet overpopulation is bad, and some shelters are worse, but people (and PETA) cannot be allowed to take matters into their own hands and just kill everything on four legs. So far the law isn't stepping in.
I actually had a lady LIVID at our rescue this weekend because her poodles were taken away by the local animal control (she had 13 total; 2 pregnant, in stacked cages in a trailer). Our organization has nothing to do with the local animal control, but the lady felt that our rescue was obligated to step in and take them all in to find good homes.
We foster and provide medical attention to shelter dogs (usually pull them the day before or even an hour before they are to be euthanized) we honestly have no room as it is but somehow manage to do a few each week. We are funded by donations, I am a volunteer, and she wanted to talk to my manager because she felt she was getting nowhere with me...
Granted I feel horrible for these dogs, but I have no remorse for that individual. How does a person let the situation get that out of control? (In our county you know conditions must have been horrible for those dogs in order for animal control has to step in).
Honestly, the dogs may have more of a chance of finding a great home at the shelter than they would have had with her. Small dogs at shelters here do pretty well, so they do have a fighting chance, at least more than the chance they would have had in packed cages.
UGH... Talk about having to almost bite my tongue, off!
it makes me mad the she only is charged with one count. If she admits to 650 then charge her with that. She needs to do serious jail time. it's not that big of a jump to go from kill animals for their own good to people. She need help, and she needs to go to jail for a very long time
That women must have a cold cold heart and to think them animals trusted her so did there previous owners makes me feel sick with living in the uk i don't hear much of these horror stories but our R.S.P.C.A sees some terrible sites that make you want to cry and they have less power than most American state humain societys but all do a brilliant job.
