Hi all I was wondering how often pups should be fed. I was feeding 3 times as a new pup then twice a day which is where we have been since six months. Quinn is now eight months and seems to be slow to eat in the mornings. She will actually get out of her crate and lie down at the door not interested in going to the bathroom or eating. I give her a few minutes to wake up then send her out to potty and let her in to eat but she seems to meander around about an hour before eating and then not all of it. I will be going on vacation soon and my husband doesn't have all morning to wait for her to eat. Should i start to remove it if she doesnt eat in 10 minutes or should I feed her once a day. I could also make her get out of her crate earlier. She seems to stay in it from nine at night until I get up at seven or eight and at times even later. I think she is too young for a once a day, but I am new at this. I don't want to shock her first by leaving for week and then changing her diet all at once.
quinns a little dog right ? i would still feed any dog, regardless of size, twice a day. you can put the food down for 20 minutes and whatever hasnt been eaten, pull it up and put it down again at dinner time. the theory is that they learn not to procrastinate when it comes to eating. you could try also just feeding him half the amount you normally give in the morning so he eats it all. or if he is not a big eater, you have the option of free feeding him, where the food is left down 24/7 and he can eat at will. some dogs will gorge food so that is not an option for them.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
When I had Yorkies I free fed, they ate when hungry. The 5 mth old Puggle I now have, eats twice a day. I give him one cup he devours it. That is what the bag recommends. I am going to change his food, after reading all the comments against corn in dog food, I will be getting a lamb rice probably for him next time. He is almost through this bag. I agree with scout, try giving him less and keep it to a set amount of time.
