Went to Petsmart today and was really disappointed they had not removed Authority from the shelves. I bought Blue Buffalo because it was recommended and the ingrediants are not as bad as some. I was wondering if anyone here has ever bought it and what do you think about it. I noticed it has brown rice and my vet told me not to give the brown but white rice to my diabetic baby.
That was one of the foods we first tried way back when.
It's dog food... Not the best, hardly the worst. Only annoyances I have experienced is that it didn't fill them up as much as later foods I tried and the black pellets (I forget what they call then some kind of life something I believe) turned the poops black. Which is no biggie, just kind of weirded me out.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
Called Blue Buffalo after the recall scare about it yesterday and they said all brown rice was raised in the states that it was the kitten food that was recalled because it was white rice. No dog foods (wet or dry are recalled) they said the press release was wrong. Makes me feel alittle better but I am still afraid. Bought steak, baby food all vegetables at the store to feed mine for right now. I have 2 bags of dry and about 20 cans of wet of Blue. Really am afraid to trust anything.
CAUTION! PURCHASING BLUE BUFFALO DOG FOOD MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES FOR YOUR DOG. I purchased a medium size bag of BLUE BUFFALO LIFE PROTECTION SENIOR FORMULA dog food on 10/20/10 and my dog had extreme bloody diarrhea by 10/27/10. Previous to this episode my dog had finished her first small bag of the weight control chicken & brown rice formula without incident. My vet in Irvine, CA reported seeing several dogs with similar symptoms that had recently purchased a new bag of blue buffalo dog food. Apparently my dog had the most severe reaction, with diarrhea lasting 2 weeks and an intestinal tract infection, resulting in vet bills totaling $478.13. PetsMart took the product back for a full refund (without the bag) and took a full report of the incident and copies of my vet bills to file a report with their corporate office.
I feed both my dogs the small breed chicken and oatmeal formula and haven't had any problems at all. Sometimes dogs have sensitive stomachs and you need to gradually switch the food over..maybe some of the issues others are having is because of this. It's not the best food on the market but definitely one of the best at petsmart and other dog food stores.
