my three cats used to be indoor/outdoor country cats until about a year ago when we had to get an apartment in town while our house was being built. (long story, don't ask!) At first they were fine (I used Felaway plug ins for calmness) But lately they've taken to scratching not only the furniture but also the doors and doorjamps. I keep their nails relatively trimmed and provided them with a scratching post (which they mostly ignore) How can I make them stop? I've tried squirting them with a mister but that doesn't work much. I can see my security deposit going out the window as they continue to ruin my landlady's furniture and doorjambs, etc.
Did you stop useing the Feliway? The scratching is normal, but they may be missing the outdoor experience, get a huge log and nail it to a board for them to scratch their nails on. When you catch them useing it tell them in a happy voice you like what they are doing(maybe sprinkle cat nip around the stump), if you catch them scrathing something you don't like, shake a can with pennies at them to scare them off. Block off those things that they are not supposed to be scratching if possible to start breaking the habit.
