I'm writing to ask about eye infections in dogs... I have 2 dogs who sleep inside with me: a black lab and a golden retriever. I just noticed that my golden retriever's inside corner of her right eye looked a bit reddish instead of black as her other eye and it was also a bit watery. I've no idea if this is an allergic reaction to something, maybe a scratch she got there while playing with my lab, or if it is an eye infection.
I took some pictures and would love to hear your opinion. It doesn't seem to hurt her because I examined it and she didn't seem to mind. While touching it feels a little hard/swollen(the red area that is)- do you have any idea as to what this might be?
Looks pretty minor. I would wash it out with something like artificial tears, and then you can put terramycin ointment for opthalmology you can mail order it from Revival or your vet might sell you a tube. 10 days of that and the eye should be ok. This looks like an allergy to me, and you can give Benadryl via mouth for that. Good luck, let me know...
Well, I totally agree with the allergies. There has been a lot of stuff going around lately. If it isn't allergies, then I think it would be an eye infection. I would go to your local vet, and see what they can prescribe for the eye. Make sure your dog doesn't mess with it. It will only make it worse. Good Luck!
my male golden as allergies, but they make him chew his feet, and have ear infections. Does she play with cats? looks like the rubbed it aginst something, or a claw was caught there. i would give you vet a quick call. and do what the first post mentioned
Maybe I don't see the problem clearly. Are you looking at the eye ball(I see the brown spot) or the little scratch near the eye? Sometimes when my dogs get eye boogers that dry, when I clean them out they kinda pull the little hairs out.
If your talking about the brown spot, my dogs both have something similar.
lol, I would ask the vet. I once tried for half an hour to get what looked like a black piece of fabric out of Rockys eye. I just sat his head on my lap and rolled a qtip around. Turns out it was part of his eye. Poor dog, lol.
