My wife and I have had Buster for 13 years and we have no kids, he is our child. He is at the vet tonight and has never been away from us for 13years. He is having trouble walking. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle losing a pet?
Tony, They are like your children and I am not going to tell you he is only a dog. It is going to be very hard. We have two buried in our backyard. They died different years years apart, but we knew ahead of time so dug the hole. We sat with each as their turn came and held them. Our vet like most is very compassionate and even sent us a card abuot a month later, kind of like a memorial card. People say get another right away, we couldn't you have to grieve and no other dog is going to be exactly like Buster. My heart aches for you and your wife and Buster. It is kind of a process you are so sad, maybe angry, I would be fine and then something would remind me and I would fill all up again, hubby too. Just know we are with you. Make a donation in Busters name to an organization for animals. God Bless
