my clinic participates in the friends of animals spay and neuter program. what generally happens is you call foa and tell them what kind of animal you have and whether it is a girl or boy. they tell you what the cost is. you pay them. they send you a certificate in the mail. they also send you a brochure of what hospitals in your area participate. you call up the animal hospital once you have the cert. and make an appointment. don't make the appt. before you get the cert. because sometimes it can take 2 weeks to get the cert. in the mail. it is a discount program and the cert. is your payment to the hosp for the surgery. it only covers the surgery, anesthesia and antibiotic. if your dog is over 50 pounds ask the hosp how much they charge extra and you are responsible for paying that over fee.
The Human Society where I live has something called ABC "Animal Birth Control". Its for low income or people who can't afford the high cost of spay or neutering. I think its $30 for neutering and $60 for spaying and most vets participate. I had my boxer spayed in April and it cost me $120 just going through my vet.
The animal welfare shelter here gives out coupons to have pets spayed/neutered when they get their rabies vaccination. Amount of coupon is different for each sex/animal but it can be quite a savings and all vets accept them.
Never heard of it! But I am not big on altering my pup, because I show. But if you aren't going to show, breed with a good breeder who will find homes for the pups, or do any other AKC-sancitioned events that require no altering, ALTER YOUR DOG! ---Allie the Chihuahua http://www.dogster.com/?41063
Thanks Guys!... I went on line an ordered the certificates for both of them.. the male and female pugs. ( they are only just turned 5 months) I am going to alter my pups because I dont feel that it is either of my pups best interest to mate them. I have my hands full with just the two of them.
