our four dogs are currently being feed eukanuba. when they were in labor, they had to get c-sections. The vets say they have no idea why there would be four c-sections in a couple of days timing. yes, something might happen, a puppy came out backwards, etc., but why four is unexplainable. We started to believe it might be the dry eukanuba food. before, we gave them royal canin, and two of our dogs, who are already excperienced moms, gave birth with no problems. but now this. does somebody know why this might have happened? I am not joking.
Wow thats some bad luck. Not sure what could've caused it but i seriously doubt it has anything to do with their food. Somebody asked a good question, did you use a new stud? Maybe all the pups were larger then your girls were used to. Maybe your girls weren't in good enough shape, you know like body condition. They can tire quickly during labor if they haven't had mild excersize everyday while pregnant!
And its not so so bad for a person to be breeding that many at once. Not every mating takes every time you breed, you can NOT count on it producing pups. Its common practice to breed a couple of your females at once in the hopes that at least one of them will have pups. Its also useful if one girl rejects her pups or can't feed all of them, etc... At least you have another mother around that may take on some of the load. I personally would never breed 4 at once, but if the OP was not in it just for the money then what they did is not that bad.
A friend/breeder of chis had 3 girls all lose their puppies shortly after birth or they had miscarrages and she thinks it was because she was feeding eukanuba....she feeds something else I dont remember and has not lost one puppy since.
Chihuahuas are like potatoe chips, you can't just have one!
we used the same stud that we used before, and no problems were in the first litters. yes, some of the pups were big, but the main thing was that they came out backwards. also, most of the girls that we breeded were late in their season, so we thought there wouldn't be any pups. well, we were wrong. one of the girls had 6 pups and they all died.
