Help!! My 2 year old pitbull has been sprayed by a police with pepper spray. I have contacted the County Sheriff and said he was going to address this issue. Well while waiting for him I decided to ask you guys some questions. Before that, this is what happen. My grandpa has a truck which was hit by another car at his job site("hit and run")and needed a police report. The police was contacted and the only officer in town (small town) happens to be a tack force. The officer, after handling the accident, then spoke to my grandpa about my pitbull. My pitbull has never been a threat to the community. Never has bitten anyone nor tried. He has never even tried to fight with another dog. He has no signs of aggression what so ever. As a matter of fact an older man about 83 years old, is my neighbor which sometimes feeds my dog and loves to have him over. I will admit that my dog does wonder arround sometimes, but no one has ever complaind about it. The officer is new in this small town of about 300 people. This officer told my grandpa that if he cought my dog arround his house he was going to kill it! He even admit to having sprayed my dog with pepper spray and said he would release his K9 to fight with my dog the next time he was arround. For a few days now i wondered what was wrong with my dogs eyes. They were red and some of his eye laches fell off. Some still haven't grew back. I would wash his eyes with water but never knew what had happen. I feel real bad for my dog and want this cop to pay for what he did. I believe this is curel and don't believe my dog meant to attack or even hurt this cop. WHAT SHOULD I DO?? HELP! ANY INFO IS HELPFUL.
honestly i think maybe he reacted to the pepper spray in some way and u might have to take him to the vet and get him checked. And also if the police sprayed him in the eyes for no reason what so ever, i think u should press charges on this policemen because if he did that to my dog, i would press charges on him right away. And he has no right to threaten your dog about getting attacked by his dog even though your dog has no history of biting someone or anything for that matter. i just hope you dont let him get away with this. well GOOD LUCK!!!take care!
all animals always need a chance to have a place they can call home. ADOPT A TRUE FRIEND!
I agree with the above poster. Please don't let your dog wander around. Keep him contained at all times to prevent things like this from happening.I freaked out on my hubby about 2 nights ago. He works overnights so he sleeps during the day. He went to sleep , he left the garage door open ,the door to the garage door open , and here's Tigger running around unsupervised in our yard. I have a fence , but what if something happened .Hubby was a sleep and would've never known.I come home at 9:30 pm and see her running around , house dark ,thank god Piper decided to stay in.Thank god both dogs where safe. Please don't let your dog wander ,then things like that wont happen.
First of all, many cops think they have power over us- and that they can get away with anything. If this were me, I would go right down to the police station and file a complaint against this officer, report him and you make sure you specify the threat he made about killing your dog-COPS CANNOT MAKE THREATS!! Take a picture of your dog for proof and hang on to any vet record you have from having him checked out- all the proof needed. This cop is new to the area, if he is using his authority over you like this, who else is falling victim to his "authority or power?" That is bs! I would report his rear end- the sooner the better, or you may be asked why you waited so long to file a complaint.

Don't let your dog wonder around. That would solve any further issues. If I were out and saw a dog wondering around by me...ANY DOG...and didn't feel comfortable, I would probably do the same. Other then that, I would file a report, but I don't know if there would be anything that would come about it since your dog is just wondering around.
"The dog has seldom been successful in pulling man up to his level of sagacity, but man has frequently dragged the dog down to his."
Responsible dog owners have their pets neutered, licensed & vaccinated. Do you? Responsible owners do NOT allow their pets to roam - EVER. Times 10 when you have a breed that you know is very controversial.
A responsible owner would have his dog to the vet asap knowing it had been sprayed in the face. Did you?
I can assure you if that cop shoots your dog, he will claim it attacked him & you will not be able to prove otherwise.
Does your county or state have "dog at large" laws? If so it doesn't matter if there are only 20 people in your town, you are in violation of the law. If your dog should cause an accident you are responsible for any property damage & medical bills.
we'll i think you need to go to the vet with some proof that the guy sprayed your dog with the pepper spray. You can hide a camera in a bush go to the door and ask him why he sprayed your dog with the peppper spray and then he will most likely tell you why and then do that whole threatening to kill your dog crap and he will get in trouble :) Man some police officers think because they have a freakin badge they can do whatever they want
I wouldn't advise trying to get a confession on tape without the recorder being seen. Chances are you would get in trouble for that.
Take your dog to the vet and explain what you think might have happened. Your vet might be able to prove that indeed pepper spray had been used. If the vet does find pepper spray was used then file a report. Sadly this officer probably won't admit to the threat he issued nor will he admit to actually doing it. The most you can do is have something on record in case something were to happen again.
Now that you think this officer is capable of harming your dog please don't let your dog roam. I know in a small community where people know each other it is hard to imagine someone hurting your dog but for your dogs safety keep him on a leash. Don't give this officer a reason to harm your dog.
I am very sorry this happened to you. I hope your dog will be ok. Some people just like to cause problems and I think this guy is one of them. Keep yourself and your dog safe.
It sounds like someone needs to lose their job. That is ridiculous. You should really get a fence for him too. It's just too risky to let him run around with nuts like that out and you never know when a car might hit him.
