I know silly question, but ive always wondered when dogs lick you on the cheek if it means they are giving you kisses? My dogs always love to crawl up on you and lick your face- TO me i think they are giving me love and kisses, But im sure there there is a differnt meaning. They will wake me up by licking my face or hubbys face every morning. I thought i remembered someting about this being a domimence thing? them licking your face ? and it seems like my dogs love to lick hubbys face i think its the beard but it seems like they are giving him a bath..lol They know i dont like that much licking on me and only lick my cheek for a few seconds and thats it and snuggle in on my lap. IS it what you want it to mean? lol any one know? theresa
so it does mean they are showing affection. I always thought this but guess i didnt know and assumed there was anther reason behind it even tho i had hoped they were giving us love- mine babies sure love to give lots of love- im happy other ppl also think they are giving kisses..
I always thought that Mollie was just giving kisses, or cleaning up any food I had on my face. She licks a lot. She even gives Rocky kisses too. Sometimes when they are wrestling, she will pin him down and lick the inside of his mouth. I don't know what that means, but its gross, she licks as far down his throat as possible. Most kisses are attempted with a fresh coat of litter on her nose. "Look mom, I cleaned the litter box, wanna kiss?"
that is a good website tramma mamma, I also read in a childrens book, that when dogs lick u, they are showing affection or sometimes they are licking the saltiness off the humans skin, does this all sound true?
Since this thread I have really been watching why Wiley and Blaze lick me. Wiley will lick me as soon as I pet him, Blaze licks me all the time. She licks my pants, shoes, coat, gloves any thing. When I take a shower and my hair is wet they all start drying my hair off with there licks, cats as well.
"While a dog licking your face may seem like an unsanitary or perverted habit it really is neither. You have understand that dog saliva is full of a antibiotics [sic] [emphasis added] which help them to stay clean and also protect them from the bacteria etc… which is found on meats."
Dog saliva isn't full of antibiotics! Now that whole site is suspect, IMO, FWIW.
dogs lick because they want food they all get this from when they are puppies thats how they got food from mommy and also because your the boss and shes just the follower and she is showing you respects.
Actually that has me thinking, my boarder collie will play with her buddy, a mastiff and he opens his mouth as wide as he can and growl and the silly girl goes and licks the inside of his mouth, I don't know why they do it, is it a game, they love eachother more than anything in the world, so I know it isn't aggresion.
It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.
I don't agree that dogs have antibiotics in their saliva, but it is true that if you have a cut and your dog licks it, it will heal faster than just leaving it. May sound weird, but from experience it does happen.
