I dread it so. On tuesday my dog of 16 years will be put down, I am having it done at the house as she is terrified of the vets office. I will have her cremated and one day we will be together again. How does one cope so?
Sorry, Tash. I know it's a really difficult decision. It's amazing when you stop to think how quick time flys. One day you bring home that puppy or that kitten. The next thing you know our pets have become seniors. But our hearts still think of them as the "new kitten" or the "new puppy."
Then you swear you'll never get another because it hurts too much too loose them. But then, you'll find yourself falling in love all over again I'm sure. Just allow yourself time to grieve and remember.
If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this--the last battle--can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close--we two--these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears.
Hope that comforts you a bit.

tash, I'm sorry for your loss. Just remember that you provided him with 16 happy years and that he will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge, tail a waggin, tongue hangin out, ready to overload you with kisses.
Tash, You have all my sympathy for your great loss and prayers for your comfort. I have lived this scene out many times in my 61yrs. It hurts like heck, but you do have 16yrs worth of memories that time can't diminish. The pain will be there too but, trust me, it will diminish. God Bless and hold you in His arms for comfort.
Tash, I know how you feel not to long ago I had to put my best friend down (Timber) and it was not easy!!!! Even though I knew it was time... I thought of all the times he WAS THERE FOE ME! How could I possibly let him down when he needed me!
Thats what I thought at first, but then I realized I was doing what was best for him! It is hard to seperate people from your beloved pet!!!
How many times in peoples lives do they find at one time or another someone you love is not there for you?
BUT... Your beloved pet.... ALWAYS!!! Know matter what is in your daily life that is stressful or unsettling... Your friend is there with those beautiful eyes looking at you when you come home like you are the BEST thing in the world!!! How much better does it get to know you have not only the love, the support and the LOYALTY BUT.. A friend that knows everything about you!
I really do believe that is why people need pets!!!! They are a gift from GOD! They have a way of making everything better! You know when its time... IT ISNT easy BUT... There comes a time when you have to say "I LOVE YOU FRIEND" Thank you for being there for me, BUT... Now it is time to for me to do for you... Rest in peace and always remember you are a part of my HEART FOREVER!
As hard as it is be there! Let your best friend know that you are there in there final moments.... They are there for us... we need to be there for them.
I am sorry for your loss and it makes me sad everytime I read on here that someone has to put their friend down.
I Truley believe that mine and Timbers bond has surpassed time! He knew I Loved him with ALL my heart.
But I also feel He knew it was time to say goodbye. You will always have times even months, years from now were you will tear up but.. As time passes you will realize.. You did the BEST! Good luck, Be strong and know that you gave your baby a good life! Majorlover
Life is too short!!! tell someone you LOVE them today!
