Wow, i was with the OP until they decided to lash out with the stupidest statement they could've possibly made in this situation. Putting puppies to sleep??? You disgust me. I hate mixed breeding as much as the next guy, but no matter what they are still PUPPIES, BABIES for god's sake!! Its not like it is hard to place them in good homes. And its not hard to see to it that they are spayed/nuetered.
I hope you realize you lost any and all creditability when you said you don't care if they live or die. Good, caring pet owners DO NOT MURDER PUPPIES.
Oh and i forgot to ask. Who the heck told you those two particular breeds will create unhealthy puppies?? Thats a complete LIE. I like how you have no idea of what you're talking about. Those puppies, if there even are any, could turn out to be perfectly normal worthy pets.
Hi, Aleczandra -- I'm so relieved for you. It sounds like you were in a lot of conflict about how to handle your dog's crisis pregnancy, if it had been a real one. Really glad it didn't come down to that.
Americans make so many assumptions about the way things must be in other countries. Poodle/Pekanese mixes are in demand here, but maybe not so in Sweden. Anyone who uses the word "murder" to describe euthanizing an accidental litter -- well, they probably haven't done much shelter work. I have read your posts against mixing breeds, and I'm sure you were just trying to be responsible. I was surprised to read the pouncing you got here. But for some people, when they refer to their dogs as babies, sometimes it isn't just a figure of speech.
Well she did post this on an open forum. And she knew what the reaction was gonna be, afterall she is not a newbie to these parts. She can either read and respond, read and not respond, or don't read or respond. All which are fine but people are gonna respond to the message she posted.
And quite frankly if I was in her position I would be trying to find an alternative to spay so that this scare never happens again. Also I would make sure no one and I mean no one brings in intact male into my house in the future if my dog was in heat.
I don't believe the OP didn't know how bad it would be for her come on and say what she did. She is not a newbie here. She knew that lots of people here look down on and get upset about people that leave there intact in heat bitch in the room with an intact male. She knew people were gonna be pissed. She was just hoping that one person would pat her on the back about the situation and tell her it would be ok if her bitch was bred.
Once again I don't believe this person didn't know the heat she would get over this thread.
accidental breedings i can forgive. i even understand why you cannot fix your poodle, and if her health concerns are as you say, i probably would advise against it. however, i cannot forgive the statement that you could care less if the pups lived or died, and would even have them euthanized yourself. after reading that initial statement, i thought i would give you the benefit of the doubt that you blurted something out, out of frustration. but then you repeated that sentiment several more times. i cant imagine the kind of heartlessness one must have to make a statement like that.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
i dont believe that you are a bad person aleczandrea. and yes mistakes happen. no one here can honestly say they havent ever made any. i also feel for your stiuation...BUT, when you made this comment: " And to be honest I really don't care what happens to these pups if they live or die, the situation is that my bitch may be whelping.. "............well you lost me. come on, even you have to admit that your statement sounds extremely callous and cold. i would hope to god that if there were to be a litter of pups, that you would not put them down, but do the responsible thing and find them loving homes. they dont ask to be born, but they DESERVE a chance at life, once they are here. and you are responsible to see that they would get it.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
You wouldnt know if the pups were sick or not at the bat. They could have defects that would come on later down the line. Just because it's a mixed dog, it's not set in stone that it would be sick. Heck, even purebred dogs will suffer from one thing or another.
Saying you were going to have them euthanises, either way? And that you want to have children? What would you do if your kids have Downs syndrome, or some other "defect"? Would you dump them in a dumpster somewhere? Geesh.
There's a party line on this forum, and Aleczandra (unlike myself) has always upheld it. To follow it to its natural conclusion, to walk the walk, is to take to heart that mixed-breed dogs are abominations that should never have happened. And that to buy one is to be responsible for a shelter dog dying. And that those who breed them are putting their pocketbooks ahead of their pets' wellbeing. Plus, Alexcandra had the idea (from ill-researched posts she read here maybe?) that peke/poodle mixes were likely to suffer from health problems. Definitely on her mind from what she wrote. Heartless is too strong a term, and I think she was just emphasizing her focus on the bitch's health, and trying to distance herself from those who breed and sell designer dogs. Just my take.

Maybe not in so many words, Gbrox. But it's not hard to see how someone might get that from what they read here. Especially with all the highly charged back-and-forth about breeding mixes. Plus, different countries have different practices to keep overpopulation in check. Not to mention different shelters in our own country.
In Sweden, pets are not neutered as often as they are here, though there are evidently very few strays and pet overpopulation is not the problem it is in the US. There seems to be a higher emphasis on individual pet owner responsibility in Sweden than in the US. This would make sense in terms of somebody deciding on their own that their accidental litter should be put down, compared to here. Here, an owner would be more likely to raise the litter, try to sell the pups, and dump any unplaced ones on a shelter to rehome or put down. I can't claim we do it better here!
i am in the millitary and my dog back home with my parents is mixed.. he's part chow and german shepart... when i was little i walked into a pet store with my mom to get some fish food and there was puppies there for free.... they were so damn cute! i begged and begged my mom for one and she said ok u can have one... he's the best dog ever!!!! he has never been unhealthy never been sick actually.... he has the best temperment.... i would bring him to where i'm at but he is used to a huge yard and the other dogs and it wouldn't be fair for him to come here.... so i don't see why u think somthing would be wrong with them.... he is a happy and healthy 14 year. old dog! has no arthritis still plays and runs... he's AWSOME!
