Every year I have planted some tulips and daffodils, I live in Michigan semi-rural area, dirt roads, etc. Every year the deer or something eats the leaves as they come up. This year I was so excited. They came up, my bleeding hearts were up all the forsythia ready to bloom and the lilies were up and last Wednesday the temp dropped to below freezing and we got snow, then it would almost melt, we would get more snow, etc. Had almost 5" Easter morning, now mostly melted again. Will anything live? Will it bloom???? Since we have a heavily wooded lot, Roses, etc won't grow, so I was so hoping I would have these. Does anyone know if they will make it?
Boy I appreciate the come back. This is the first time they have come up without the deer eating them. Guess its getting too populated. The deer are still off and on in the backyard, but so far the tulips are green spikes and we are supposed to get above freezing by friday.
Ah yes, i am also in michigan. Isn't it horrible having snow in APRIL?!? Lucky in my area we've only gotten a couple inches then it melts and comes back, melts and comes back. The flowers were all coming up and now everything is at a stand still. I don't think anything is badly damaged though, and how long could cold weather possibly last in april....*knocks on wood* :)
Lake Orion, here, snow on grass this am. Supposed to get warmer by Friday, BUT also forecasting sleet for tomorrow. Can't win! We didn't have a bad winter, but man am I ready for spring. #2 Son called last night, lives in Austin TX and says it is gorgeous there. Says must be Gods spring, he is a new resident, the blue bonnets and paintbrushes have really impressed him. You know what Monkey someone else told me that about deer. How often do you have to do it? I am ready to try anything.
We have had strange weather here too. It was up into the 80's and now it is back to freezing temps and snow. My tulips are up but the blooms haven't opened yet. I used to plant winter pansies in the fall. They would bloom every time the weather turned nice and you could even see them under a light snow. They would stay blooming until it got too hot in the summer for them. I love flowers but just don't have the time to take care of them.
