My family and I went to our friend's house for Easter dinner yesterday. My friend got a phonecall and asked if I wanted to go to her Gram's house to see a cat having kittens. We jumped in the car (even though she lives next door, but it's the country and it was freezing out) and went right over. The cat is very young and had already had 2 kittens before we got there. Sad thing is her Gram has the beginning stages of Alzheimers so she kept asking over and over if we should move the cat and kittens. I found out that she has been feeding the cat (a stray) for 2 months and wasn't even sure she was having kittens. The cat jumped up on her couch in her reckroom and had the kittens. She wanted to move them to the basement but we talked her out of it for a few reasons. Her Gram has a broken foot that she is hobbling on and shouldn't go down steps. She might even forget they are down there. She asked me if I wanted to take them home with me. I really wish I could have but my husband would have a cow (we already have 9 pets more than he would like) but I told her that I will check into finding a foster home for the mama and babies. We didn't get to stay long but there were 3 kittens when we left. A buff colored one, a calico and an orange one like the mom. I am going to check with our local shelters tomorrow. Boy...those babies were cute. Their tiny meows were melting my heart...but I must resist!
