I have a Labrador Retriever puppy that we got two months ago. He's about 8 months old. He's a very rambunctious fellow and gets into everything, including the trash.
I got home from work today and noticed my dog's eyes were swollen. It doesn't seem to really affect the eye itself. The area around his left eye is really swollen on the eyeridge and also underneath the eye. On the right eye, it is mostly swollen on the eyeridge and not so much underneath the eye. My brother said it started out as a slight swelling and has only gotten worse. The only thing I've ever seen that slightly resembles it is Will Smith's character's allergic reaction to shellfish on Hitch (http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1440/hitch2rr.jpg). We think it might be an allergic reaction to something, but I want to make sure so I can get him to a vet if it's something serious!
The swelling was almost completely down by 10:00pm that night. Thanks for your concern. He's fine now. My mom thinks he was allergic to her hairspray. Now he's just barfing everywhere. Maybe some day he'll stop getting into everything.
Maybe you should consider a crate when you can not give him 100% of your undivided attention. I was at the vets when a guy brought in his lab puppy who apparently gotten into a box of rasins. Seemed harmless enough, until the vet had to tell him the puppy was in renal failure. There are too many harmful things for a puppy to get into. It is best to keep them contained in a safe area when you can not supervise them. Better to be safe than sorry.
