We are going to our Granddaughters graduation in Tennessee next month. We are taking our dog, and we will kennel him in Tennessee. We can't have him at the place we are staying. Will he be alright? He has never been kenneled before, in a (doggy motel) he was a rescue and has only been with us for 6 weeks. Would we be better leaving him in a kennel in Michigan where we live? Really need some direction here. He has anxiety issues when we leave to go to work, cries, but must quiet down and is usually sleeping in his kennel when we get home. He does go in his kennel when he is upset etc. we just leave it open. Have had no experience with putting a dog in a doggy motel. Always had much smaller dogs. Man I am not going to have a good time, I will be worried sick about him.
If you do board... Make sure shots like bordatella are a requirement (I've heard of to many horror cases)
In the past we have take Lucy with us and simply crate her at who evers house we are staying at (everyone in the fam is pretty dog friendly and understanding)
We have had to leave her at a kennel once and we left her at one that was recomended by neighbors and was also attached to a vet office; that made me feel very secure. In our area they offer at home services, on the vet's bulletin board, where a vet tech will come over at least two times a day to let them out; not as stressful as a kennel.
Have a safe trip & a great time at your grand-daughter's graduation it will be a very special day =) and your pup will be very excited to see you when you return. =)
