I recently noticed that my 4 month old bichon is missing 4 to 5 teeth after my husband saw blood in his shirt where Apollo was chewing. Is this normal to loose so many, Can I expect him to loose all of them now or over a period of time. Also, should his food be changed from dry to soft? As you can see I'm new to this and seeing his teeth missing has made me very concerned and nervous.
Don't panic. All puppies begin loosing there baby teeth to get there permanant adult teeth in. Just keep and eye on the teeth like you would a child to make sure they are coming in correctly. And that there are no retained baby teeth in the way. Sometime they will have two canines on both sides. If the retained teeth are not removed by vet it can cause the bite to go off. Just make sure your vet knows what they are doing if you have to have retained puppy teeth removed. I have a novice vet killed the root to the permanant tooth and he lost it as well. And it cost me big bucks to have the dead tooth removed. If the pup is uncomfortable, you can take a washcloth, tie a knot in the middle of it, get it wet and freeze it. It helps with teething. I would stick to the dry food you are feeding.
