I want to run an allergy test on my dog. There are a few reasons. He's always scratching, it isn't chronic itchiness but I know he's always itchy. He started to get little bumps on his neck, it's colorless but it's little bumps and scabby. Im not too sure where it's from but the vet says "it's no big deal". Lastly I would like to know what he's allergic to so in the future I can prevent problems before they happen.
Anyone know the cost of running an allergy test? Also do you know if pet insurance covers it? Thanks guys!
I paid $250 for the first round of alergy tests on my dog over 10 years ago, so I figure they must cost more by now. Ended up being pretty much a waste of money, since she was allergic to most everything including grass. Not much I could do about that. I did give her shots daily, but it did not help that much.
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
I dont see it as a waste of money.. I now know everything Riley was eating he was allergic to, and he gets injections for environmental allergies. Its helping, his ear infections have cleared up, for once in a long time.
And 10 years ago, allergy tests were probably alot different..

I would approach it as a food allergy & work on that. He has to eat so its not wasting money. Vets don't want people to know how many problems are actually caused by food allergies & can be resolved without medical intervention.
It is far cheaper to eliminate the food possibility first
Last month Mason had an allergy test where they just take blood from them and it cost $400 for the test alone. At least I do know now what all he is allergic to. He is allergic to chicken and he was eating a food with chicken in it! So I thought the test was worth how much it cost since now I do have a little idea of what he is allergic to since I had tried him on all kinds of foods and nothing ever helped and Mason was miserable.
