The dogs are making me insane. Mollie pees when I'm gone sometimes, its usually warm (I'm thinking she does this when she sees us pull up to the house) and its not really yellow, more clear. Rocky is in his crate when we leave because he pees on the carpet when no one is home, but some morning he leaves me a pile of poop (I think its him because of his pee stain next to it). Looks like hes back into the crate at night. One of the cats peed in a plastic tub, smelled my way to the source, and have been cleaning the litterbox daily. I need some kind of miracle cleaner to take the smell away, I can handle the training aspect, but if the smell is still there they will continue to go in that spot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried a rug doctor, but that made my whole apartment smell. And most cleaners just make it smell like soapy pee carpet, lol. There are NO stains, just pee smell. I know I'm probably doomed, its in the underlay, but if you can help, i'm all ears.
For your dogs, it's time for ruthless crateing. They know better.
Cats I am useless, I never put a littlebox in my house, cats go outside like the dogs... I don't like the idea of an animal going to the bathroom in my house, weather in a box or not.
To get rid of odor you can try Nature's Miracle, or even better yet take White Vinigar and mix with a few drops of Essential oil (found in health food stores in small vials) of lavender or cinnamen, spray over area and scrub.
A cat by any other name... is still a sneaky little furball who pukes on the sofa.
I try to scrub the litter pans at least every two weeks and change the litter out then.. I also rotate.. I put 2-3 inside and 2-3 outside to air during the day..
We had a BIG mess at our firs place out here with Mo, our kitty.. There were lots of strays in the neighborhood and of course they find our house.. Well, with the swamp cooler, you have to crack the windows to let the air flow.. So, we would crack the back patio door a bit.. Well, a stray peed on the door.. So Mo peed on the carpet in the dining room.. YUCK!! He has the WORST smelling pee of all of the cats I think.. So, I tried what you did, steamers, shampooers all that crap.. You're right, all it does is make the whole house smell like pee and move it around in the carpet.. It was a CONSTANT problem too.. Because once it was there it was like kitty competition between him and the strays.. Talk about frustrating.. So, we tried all those pet deoderizing things.. I even ordered Zero Odor.. Unfortunately all I really accomplished was staining the carpet because it had gotten THAT bad.. LUCKILY since we told the property agency EXACTLY where the pee was they only charged us for that small room instead of the ENTIRE first floor which they usually do.. BUT, we used the Natures Miracle stuff with the dogs.. I guess it worked.. They potty trained relatively easily and just had "accidents".. It did leave a little bit of a yellow circle on the white carpet we had, but with the steamer it came right up.. I also had a cat pee on our chair in the living room.. And I mean PEE.. Uggh, it was AWFUL.. I used Zero Odor on it and I swear you can't tell.. The ONLY problem with it is that it DOES stain a lot of fabrics, so you'd have to test a small area.. I had the pleasure of spraying the ENTIRE chair (because he peed a nice little puddle on the cushion and then when he jumped off onto the arm, it splashed.. BLECH), so it didn't matter if it stained a bit.. I also SOAKED it with a few bottles of the stuff.. I'm paranoid about cat smells because of how my Grandma's house always smells.. I don't want to be "THAT house".. I'll have to try the vinegar and oil thing.. I've never heard of that one!! Thankfully we don't have carpet where puppies or the incredible peeing kitty go anymore!! So I just spray with floor cleaner and I'm done!!
This is a little something that I found work when housebreaking my girls if you can stand the smell of antiseptic. Take and get yourself a brown bottle of the old fashion lysol dilute the way for mopping or santizing your floors. Take and run through carpet cleaner of use sponge mop on carpet kills the odor, but my hubby couldn't hardly stomach the smell of the lysol.
in my experience, i swear there is no better product on the market than this stuff. we have it at work and i just cant tell you enough how well this stuff works . scout has on a few occasions pooped in my car on the way to work. even when she stamped it into my seats, this stuff took it right out, no stain left behind and no odor. its the best thing out there as far as i am concerned.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
We once rented an industrial-strength carpet cleaner from Home Depot. It's not that expensive. We did it when we managed to spill tens of gallons of water from our saltwater tank onto the carpet and it got a nasty mold smell.
Of course, not too long later we spilled water again, and this time we ripped up the carpeting and installed vinyl composite tile. The house is a rental so we paid for the supplies and my landlord helped me to lay the tile. In the end it only cost us about $50 since it was a small room. But I had to tear out the carpeting (and the asbestos tile underneath) by myself--no help from husband! >:-(
Wandering, your right, Mollies getting a kennel this weekend. And they do know better, in the morning, Rocky won't come out of my bedroom until I find the surprise and yell "Who pooped", then he comes creeping around the corner. And Mollie hasn't done this for a long time, she can hold it all day if I'm at home, but when we leave she pees. Stinkin dogs, lol.
I'm moving to a bigger place in a couple months, so I'll start on fresh carpet soon, lol.
We use an oxyclean product, It's in a green bottle. It works miracles on smells and stains. There's also a moderately cheap product at wall mart in a clear spray bottle called "Odoban".. It works decent, too.
Everytime you see them "go" outside give them lots of praise. I used to have parties of praise when I was housetraining Phantom. I think the neighbors thought I was nuts. Also, strict crate training when you are away or can not watch them. Give them an outside the crate test in a few months and hopefully they will have figured it out. The cats, I'm at a loss. I'm having the same problem with Guppie. Someone help!!
