Hello everyone! As promised, I tried to take evaluation shots of Sierra. I had heard that their proportions at this age are the most like their adult proportions will be. It's right before they hit the awkward stage. You didn't tell me how hard it was! They're not perfect, but I think you get the idea. I am very happy with her ear set, from the front and the side. It was hard to stack her, so I have several pics of show off her topline. Thanks for the opinions, AND BE HONEST!
You did not state the age of your puppy. The evaluation should be done during a window of 3 days prior to 8 weeks old or 3 days after. Anytime during that window is the correct time to evaluate. The evaluation should be done by a knowledgeable person in the flesh, in a different environment than the dog is familar with. If there is a training center near you with knowledgeable dog people there, have them do the eval. It should also be done in front of a mirror. Looking at the puppy in the mirror rather than at the puppy. The puppies should be evaluated against the breed standard rather than the other puppies in the litter. If you can get your hands on Pat Hastings video called the Puppy Puzzle, it is a great asset in evaluating puppies. She has another great book, but I can't seem to find any of my books since my roomate moved out. I think she thought she needed more than me. But from what I have seen of the dogs she has bred, purchased, kept and shown, she might really need it much worse than me. LOL
He's your friend, your partner, your defender your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to worthy of such devotion
W.V. had some very good tips. However, I wouldn't be too concerned with the 8 week window. I know several breeders who really don't decide on their show propspects until 10-12 weeks old. Good luck w/your endeavors.
I like him a lot better than I like most people. To you he's a dog. TO me he's an adopted son who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly. I have no problem with any of these. <
Thanks eveyone! she is just a hair over 9 wks. but has not changed much as far as proportions go. All the show kennels I've talked to do their evals in between 8-12 wks.depending on breed. I will only be showing on a very limited basis due to recovering from a 5 yr illness, but I'd like to learn and do the best I can. I wanted to get more involved with the breed, besides sledding anyways. I haven't been able to find a training kennel around here to mentor me, but I will continue looking! Thanks again! Any more tips would be helpful!
