Help. My female yorkie just went into heat and the male is trying but not getting anywhere. This is their third year at trying. I think I made the mistake of letting my boy practice on a stuffed animal. Now he cannot seem to get a grip or turn her how he wants her and quits before anything really happens. I would like to know how to go about in helping them. I even tried artificial insemination with a vet and it did not work. Any suggestions?
Ok, first I have to get the mundane queations out of the way, Why are you breeding? Are your dogs good quality show dogs? Have you done proper genetic testing? Are you srue these two dogs are the proper match for each other?
Now once you have answered those...
Have you clipped hair out of the way? Have you checked your bitches estrogen leval? Your boys sperm count? Have you attempted to assist in the mating, novice studs can have trouble finding the right spot.
A cat by any other name... is still a sneaky little furball who pukes on the sofa.
Sometimes you just have to accept somethings are not meant to be. I tried and tried to breed my female(who is an AKC Champion). I tried with over the past 3 years with different stud dogs. I got ties, but never got pups. So a week ago Monday I threw in the towel and had her spayed. I have had her to repo specialist, there is nothing physically wrong with her. Blood test after blood test show nothing irregular. She apparently is just not meant to have pups.
