We have a 9 week old miniature schnauzer. I was wondering how often and how much food he should be eating. The breeder said 1/4 cup twice a day. I read on a mini website, it should be 1/4 3x. I don't want to feed him too much or not enough. I did give him his 1/4 c this morning, then at noon I gave him about 1/8 and he ate it all. It's been 5 yrs since we had a new puppy so I've fogotten how to do it! I hope I do this right, here's a photo of him: His name is Tracer http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/imjones/Tracer.jpg
Hmmm.. I'm feeding our new pup according to her weight. 3-4x per day. Lately I have been giving her 3/4 cup 3x a day (she is 14lbs). But I up that to 4x, when I sense she is having a growth spurt. I think most feeding guides that I have seen say to feed a new pup more often, and an adult 2x per day. Hope this helps, I would definately check with your vet.
BTW, your baby is adorable! I grew up with minis so I love'em!
OMG He's such a cutie!! I remember mine looking like that (though they are black of course).
Being as he's a puppy, I would feed the 1/4 cup 3 times a day. Puppys grow quickly, you dont want to be underfeeding him. If you notice him gaining a little belly, or looking thin, then you can add or decrease a bit.
Good luck!! I have a 2.5 female named Kiba, and a 1.5 year old male named Stryder. If I ever do get another schnauzer it's be a salt n pepper, I'm tired of these unphotogenic dogs!! LOL
Thanks! He is a cutie....espically with a little mini cut already! The breeder had all of the pups with the mini cut. It makes him look so grown up! We had our first poo in the house this morning! Otherwise he has been doing really good, or should I say, WE have been doing really good with getting him outside when needed except this morning! Yep this will be our third mini in almost 20 yrs. I still would like to get a cavalier maybe this fall or next spring. Here is another photo: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/imjones/Traceroutside.jpg
