Losing best friend
I have to get rid of my chocolate lab hershey. he sheds and my mom has asthma. we've had him since he was a pup but its getting too expensive to board and feed him.

Hello everyone i'm new to this site when i found it i was so happy. i love animals very much. i have three dogs of my own. A chocolate lab hershey,daschund oscar, and a chuhuhua pokito. and i even have a little pond with fish in my back yard. but i'm sad to say i have to get rid of my chocolate lab hershey.
I love him so much i hate to see him go. every night i cry. He sleeps in my room on my bed every night which makes it so much harder. my dad said after hershey goes we'll get a female weeny dog to mate with my dog oscar. but no dog can replace your best friend.

Put your dog on Optima 365. It will stop his shedding in 3 to 4 weeks and you have to keep him on it. This way you won't have to get rid of your dog. Please tell your dad that there is enough dogs and you shouldn't breed more.

Good luck...

I hope your family is able to take the advice of the members here and help with your situation.

I will say this and my intention is not to sound rude, but I honestly don't understand the logic behind rehoming a dog and attempting to add more to the household, since you mentioned ashtma as the reason for rehoming.

My dad has the worst asthma I've ever seen. And he has two labs. They are mostly outside dogs, and only come in during rain or cold weather. Did you know that the more time you spend with an animal you are allergic to, the more immune you become to their allergens?? My dad can pet/brush his dogs, but still get stuffy around other peoples.
I don't agree with rehoming an animal because of allergies, then why get the pup in the first place?
Wiley Blaze had a good suggestion and you can help too. Keep the dog out of your parents room and off of the furniture. Vacuum more often and brush your dog outside at least twice a week.

I agree with the others, Why get rid of one dog and then breed more of a different kind???
Try the brushing, vaccum and the meds. Don't just rehome Hershey. How wrong

not happy with your decision

How could you get rid of your friend who adores you and your family

If you decided to give the dog ,Make sure you find your dog a good home and keep in touch with the family who adopts him

well, i knoe=w how it feels losing a best friend. It's really hard ot let go, as long as you give hershey a good home, and to make sure the new owners will care for hershey as much as you did. then you'll feel a little better at least, i know no dog can replace hershey, but you'll find something specail about the new one you are going to get, try not to feel so bad, and look on the bright side.

Well when we get rid of hershey we were only thinking about mating oscar. it wasn't for sure. and if we did we would only keep one. my mom seems to do better with smaller dogs. the chuhuahua helps too.
Treat your dogs the way you want to be treated. . . like royalty!

I agree with you guys. I feel my parents are making excuses to get rid of him and at first it was so they could get new furniture. But now my dad wants a motorcycle. And hes looking for one. so if he gets a motorcycle then we won't have the money for new furniture. so i think my dad is changing his mind about getting rid of him so i'm going to do every thing i can to change his mind because hershey is one of a kind and it is wrong to rehome him. Thanks guys. (And hershey really doesn't bother my moms asthma its smoke and congestion that really hurts it).

Thanks. I love my dogs more than any thing. I think they are more important than new furniture. I know they are dogs but they are members of my family. And they are my babies and my best friends.

I don't know what to do he's not changing his mind. we get to pick the family he goes to. Some one at the vet clinic is helping us. And if they don't treat him right you may see me on americas most wanted or cops. lol jk

I 'm so sorry for your situation.. I hate seeing a child more mature then it's parents. I don't know how old you are but your parents seem to be the children in this situation.. It ticks me off big time to see the egoism in adults with children.
What great examples they have set for you! (NOT)
If rehoming is the only option maybe someone that lives close to and are members here can help... and at the same time tell them what lousy, egoistic %&¤#¤ they are...

Sorry,.. These things just make me so darn mad..
If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving Fido only two of them.

The dander does bother my moms asthma. And when i went to see my grandma we spoke to her neighbor. she has three dogs and we explained about hershey and she said she got this special brush that really helped with the shedding. my mom asked him about it later he said that will be more money. it is only like $20.00. Its like my dad doesn't want to bother with it. he doesn't want to spend the extra money. its not fair if he can spend money on him self all the time why can't he spare a little money to help keep hershey??? GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that must be realy hard!my dog had 2 go away for a week 2 hav an operation and i missed her so much! escpecially when ur so attached!im so sorry!!mabye you might like this dog just as much...

Puppyluvr, If my parents were trying to get rid of my dog and I was 19, I would move out. Its happened to me before and I packed up all my stuff and my dogs and left. Thats just what I would do, lol.

And if your 19, couldn't you afford to buy the brush? Maybe if you start paying for Hersheys stuff they will give in and let you keep him.

I'm 19 and completely responsible for my dogs and their financial needs. If you want the dog, step up and be responsible for him and pay for him.

I think if you really love an animal then you will find a way to keep it. I am highly allergic to cats but I have four of them. I have had the oldest one for thirteen years now. I just take zyrtec and go on. Please don't breed another dog after you get rid of your lab. That's just not fair to him or the puppies that will be born.
My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am.

I agree with all of you. I have paid for his boarding before. But i just paid 690.00 dollars to get my car fixed. so i don't have much left. but also too i'm not able to move out on my own right now i don't have enough money to do any thing. and as long as i'm in my dad's house he makes the decisions. the reason they want to breed daschunds is because compared to a chocolate lab they are so much smaller. and they shed a whole lot less. and i don't even know if we are going to breed oscar. but i really appreciate all of your support. Thank you so much for keeping my spirits up. I'll make sure he gets a good home if he does leave. If not i maybe wanted for murder one day lol joking. but my dad said if it doesn't work out we will take him back.
