Went and returned my Blue Buffalo and bought another kind of food, but, got home and I am afraid to feed it to them. When Max begin to get sick, I started cooking for them more because of being so afraid of the dog foods. Unless its my imagination I think Mandy is not as itchy. I think I have bought my last dog food. I think I will even make their treats. This has been a nightmare for everybody.
I wish I had the nerve to feed raw. Something about it scares me. My vet said no way, and I guess it kinda stuck with me, and I really don't know what to do. I want to do whats best for them, thats for sure.
Did your vet tell you why "no way"? I was in the same boat as you. I was going to cook for my dog b/c of the pet food scare. Everyone told me it's better just to feed raw. I'm here to tell you I was scared to death of feeding raw!! But after you do it and relax about it, it's much easier and way better for your pet. Good luck.

I am not currently feeding 100% raw. But ask your vet when was the last time he was out in the woods and saw a coyote and wolf building a fire to cook there food before they ate it? A dogs mouth, teeth and digestive system was designed to eat raw food. Dog food was originally developed with lots of fillers to keep dogs close to home. These filler keep dogs hungry all the time. Over the years more foods were developed with better nutrition and not all the crap in the food. But with recent scares more and more people are going to raw foods. And it makes for happy dogs.

I started cooking for my dogs when the whole recall thing started. But my dad was out at the Tractor Supply store last week, and bought some food that one of their workers suggested. I check all the recall list and the food he got is not on any of them. They seem to like it, and are not going thru the bag as fast as they did with the Sweet Potato and Duck that was 4x as much to buy. But I have notice they are having a hard time with going number 2, no matter how much water they drink.
They do make some raw foods that are already processed, you just have to weigh out their food and feed.
I am feeding my two Schnauzers Timberwolf Organics. Their poop has firmed up, and Stryder has stopped chewing on his paws. I'm hoping his ears is not an allergy, and just a bad infection... since they havent gotten worse or better switching to a better kibble.
Dallas, I was feeding Blue Buffalo to Mandy and Tina. Max did not like it and I was feeding him Natrualife. They are holitic dog foods and the whole thing has been recalled. I am just giving them chicken, cooked and canned and tonite I give them chicken, boiled potato, and some peas and carrots. They ate the whole thing. But, I am just at a loss at what to do. After reading the article that schnauzers should live to be 18 or 19 yrs.old if you quit the commercial foods, makes me think I am killing the other two myself with what I feed them. You are right Wiley, the vet suggests Science Diet.
I just read somewhere that they were saying they need 75% meat and 25% veggies. I don't really know. I am at a complete loss but trying. I think I might try the timberwolf org. that Merico is using and just see if they will eat it.
