I got my puppy when I was out of town so the first 2 weeks he has been with me, he has slept in and gotten used to a soft carrier case. I have no problem with this except for it is impossible to leave him in it when I leave the house as 1) he will outgrow it 2) it has little ventilation and 3) he knows how to get out. I know that it is typical for him to cry when put in a crate but, is there anything that I can do to make him more comfortable in the big crate. I thought about putting the small one inside but fear that he will then use the bathroom outside of the little crate, although still in the big crate. I just want to make it easier for when I leave during the day (he will cry for hours until I return) and eventually transition him to the big crate for sleeping at night too. Any suggestions?
We had brought our little guy from out of town and we drove to get him. He was used to his little plastic crate that we had but decided to get him used to the big one sooner then later. So two days after we brought him home we bought a big metel cage that had a divider in it. We made it small at first and would gradualy put him in there with a treat when he went in. At night time he wimpered and barked alot but we would tough it out and leave him in there after about a week he got used to it and forgot all about the little one. I would suggest putting your pup in and leaving him for short amounts of time at first during the day and leave him in there through out the night (with bathroom breaks) and see how that goes. I am still very new at this as this is the first dog i have owned but this is what worked for us. good luck
