Yep, I am also thinking allergy. Baxter when his allergies really flare up goes for his hind feet. Right now the hair on one foot is stained redish brown from the saliva. (Baxter is a Bichon) I havent been home as much as normal so I am guessing one of the kids gave him something he shouldnt have!
Lacy was doing this recently. She's allergic to fleas and got some fleas on her before I put advantage on and she immediately became itchy and her back feet swelled some between the pads. She started licking them alot and they got really red and swollen. She had to go to the vet yesterday for her yearly vaccinations and the vet gave me some antibiotic/antihistamine spray for her feet. If they become red and raw they could become infected
Maybe he likes to be clean. My male Dobe is like a cat about his grooming. He likes to be neat and clean...to a fault. When the scumbag next door to me shot him, the vet couldn't figure out what was wrong with him because he had cleaned himself up so well, the bullet hole could not be found. After a bunch of tests, they x rayed him and saw the bullet.Yes he's OK (after surgery) and as a matter of fact, he has a new litter of beautiful Dobe pups, well, OK Abby HAD them but they're his, too!
It could be anything. Take your dog to the vet. My dog chews his feet when I board him. His is stress, but he still always needs medication to stop the iching and to prevent an infection. At home he gets a new bone every day to chew on, but no matter how many times I tell the boarding staff he needs a new bone every day (which I provide - one per day) they always send bones home with him.
It could be food allergies but to rule that out How oold is the dog and how long has he eaten the food your giving him now? It can also be stress.. Stress in dogs is not the same and human stress, we stress becouse of time. Dogs don't understand time. Stress for a dog is for example if your not home much all of a sudden.. or if you usually do something and just stop with it like changing feeding or walking hours...
If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving Fido only two of them.
