I need to ship out 2 pit bull pups to Cali, but now it may be too hot for them to fly according to the airlines. Wondering if anyone knows any ground couriers or any other way??? I know it sounds odd, but these pups are ready to go.
There are several breeders in my area that will not ship air because of the way that they treat the animals. If you google animal movers/shipping several ground carriers will come up. You have to type in the shipping info - your address and the recipients address, etc. and they will give you a quote within 48 hours. Also, have you tried Continental? I have heard that they are the only airline with air-conditioned compartments to put animals - but it is around $350-$400 a dog. I am not sure, though.
Jackie, I have shipped dogs and pups all over the world. I have never had a problem. I am going to be sending a Champion dog to Sweden as soon as the alotted time has past to do the required titers for Rabies.
But in regard to your question, it use to be the airline could ship with a acclaimation statement regarding temps. This is because most airlines will load the crates on to a trolly(you know the thing that drives the luggage out to the plane) They can sit there up to a hour. With Continental there is no heat embargos, because they do not leave live animals sitting. When they are ready to close the cargo doors, the animals are loaded into an airconditioned van, driven directly to the plane, loaded and the cargo door is shut. The same with arrival.
If you choose to go the ground route. Try to contact professional dog handlers. They will usually transport a dog or pup for around $100 each. They have airconditioned trucks for transporting show dogs. I have used American Airlines, Delta, Continental, United, Northwest, and Alaskan Air for transporting in the continetial USA. And use Lufthasa for international flights. All without incident

i have got a dog during the summer i just had to travel late at night to get it. you just have to ship it on the right day and at the right temp. if you check with the airlines they should let you know if its the right temp or not for your dog to fly.
