Lu loves watermelon just like her mama ;) but even I'll admit we are pretty messy...
She is not a fan of cherries or oranges but will eat almost any type of melon that I eat pretty willingly. I usually give her a few chopped cold pieces, especially during the summer, it's our weekend treat.
Also ice she is crazy for ice cubes, better than any toy I could ever buy lol =)
You can feed any fruit except raisins and grapes which cause seizures for reasons unknown to scientists. Just dont feed the cores or seeds of any fruit to the dogs, it is very bad for them. Also DO NOT feed your dog tomatoes or tomatoe plants, they cause heart arrythmias and respitory arrests. In my practice we have recently had a visitor that came in with arrythmias from tomatoes. Luckily, the dog survived :)

Mine loves apples, red and yellow pepper raw potatoes and --Azynda ICECUBES!!
None of the fruit has peels or seeds and he only gets one or two pieces, but Ice cubes, he absolutely loves, eats them or plays with them. lol I can't give him one unless I tell him to lay down and he gets on his pillow. Otherwise they melt all over my wood floors.
The tomato thing made me wonder... Melanie adores anything with tomato sauce, she can smell it a mile away and goes freaking nuts spinning and spazing out at the kitchen gate while its cooking and i always share the last of my plate of anything with the 6 poms, they're like dishwashers lol. But would the tomato sauce be bad like the actual tomatos?? It'll super suck if i have to stop giving the poor dog her most favorite food in the entire world, Spaghetti!!
When we go to the farmers market, Jasmine crawls under the tables and steals cherries, apples, pears, etc that have fallen on the ground. She never eats them any other time, just at the market. Everyone finds her amusing.
And I've never heard of such a thing about tomatoes. I dont think its true. Mine smell spaghetti sauce a mile away too, and drool like st bernards over it.

My 2 year old female chocolate lab loves oranges, apples, bananas, and watermelon.
When we first got her as a puppy, we were determined only to feed her dry dog food. That theory didn't last long at all! Well, if we're eating something that is safe for her to eat, guess what she gets some too. I guess we have spoiled her.
Buddy, my lab mix, LOVES veggies and fruits. He goes crazy for bananas, apples, broccoli, peas, carrots...He'll even steal parsley and basil off the counter if I'm not watching him on days when I'm making my big batch of sauce.
If I make it available for him, he'll eat it. I am personally thrilled that he enjoys these types of foods...they're good for him and are a part of some of the recipes that my vet provided me for giving him some more variety and healthy options aside from boring old dog food.
Both my dogs dont care to much for fruit but love carrots and also ice cubes- Daisy will play all day in her water bowl if you keep putting ice cubes in there. She sure does make a mess on my kitchen floor tho. Bentley doesnt care for ice cubes- They like lettace also which they steal from Bella our rabbit that lives in the house, and steal what ever veggie we give her.
I didnt know that grapes were bad for dogs and use to give them grapes they never ate them tho they would play with them on the floor, thank goodness. But i did read on here months ago that they were bad so i havent giving them any more grapes.
They love to sit by the dinner table and sit there and just watch everyone eat in hopes some one is going to cave and give them something, Which i never do, so they dont sit by me but hubby always caves and gives them food and so do the kids- Its funny to watch tho the differnce with them and me they wont sit there and beg from me when im eating but will anyone else. I can eat right on the couch and they come and lay by me but never beg and hubby can sit down with a bowl of cereal or ice cream and they dont leave him alone at all- lol i told him not to feed them or they would never leave him alone and they dont- he should of listened..lol
Fruit is a good alternative to commercial treats. The only fruit you should avoid is grapes, although rasins are okay. The commercial dog food and treat industry has proven dangerous and unsupervised. Dogs and cats can actually live longer, healthier lives on vegetarian diets. But, just like people, all dogs and cats need supplements. Dogs adjust very easily to a vegetarian diet. Cats can be a bit harder, but they do well on it. Try cooking vegetarian meals at home for your dog. Also, check out this website: http://www.vegepet.com/
