ok, its the end of the school year, so my science teacher let our class dissect frogs. I was upset at first n i was like poor frog, n my friends were like it's already dead!1 n it was a girl, n n my teacher said our forg Steverella was about to give birth!!1 but of course it was dead. Oh it also squirted juice on my friend, n we had to uinflate its lungs, n we also had to cut off its legs! So much to tell
taha, I'm so sorry. That is sad it was about to have babies. I, on the other hand, love science, and found dissecting fascinating. Don't yell at me >.< lol. In 8th grade I wasn't allowed to touch them because I butchered them. Not on purpose, I was just THAT bad with the tools they gave you.
i've dissected all kinds of things. a squid, a snake, a grasshopper etc. i have a degree in biology so when i took the vertebrate & invertebrate components of my degree, that's what we did. the coolest thing i ever did was dissect a shark head to look @ the brain.
I had to dissect a sguid and the teacher did a shark 2. But we got to see him do the whole thing. I was a little suprised that i thought it was cool LOL but it was very intresting. The only thing that bothetred me was the smell LOL.
lol, we dissected chicken wings. =) It was actually a lot of fun and since it was something they just bought at walmart and i'm used to seeing I was ok. ha ha My teacher dissected a cow heart for us.. that was a little different but I was still ok.. I just can't stand the smell! If there was no smell I would feel much better.

Dissection is the practice of cutting into and studying animals. Every year, millions of animals are dissected in elementary, secondary, and college science classes. Each animal cut open and discarded represents not only a life lost, but also a part of a trail of animal abuse and environmental havoc.
I am in school for a nursing degree, so I had to take several biology classes. Yes, I will admit it. I did have to dissect a cat. I am not going to lie, it is very sad. But, it was not as if the cats were killed for that purpose. From what we were told, they were cats that were euthanized due to overpopulation.
In high school we did sharks and bunnies. I will never forget the smell of the sharks when it mixed with the home ec room across the hall that smelled like the popcorn she made for every class! I can't eat popcorn to this day!
My first anatomy class in college we did sheep brains and hearts, cats, some type of eye-probably cow. And the second anatomy class we did human cadavers. I remember cringing about it when I heard we had to do it for our nursing degree but it wasn't as bad as the sharks!
I don't think its animal abuse. I don't feel that high school kids should have to do it since many wont need it later on in life but for me it was a great experience. I'd rather have someone taking care of me have looked at some real life structures than practiced on a machine.

I don't think it is cruel. My science teacher explaned to us that the sharks we did were bycatch. They were killed in a fishing net and if we handn't taken them then there dead bodies would be put back in the ocean. So us taking them helped the ocean. I felt bad they died but now they were put to good use.
I wouldn't worry too much about brittany saying it is "abuse". I get the impression that she is a one-time poster. She came on one day and posted on several different topics. However, every one of her replies looked like she just cut and pasted from another source. (and actually, several of her replies didn't even answer the original question asked!) I have a feeling she probably won't be back.
And if she does come back-it will be just more cut and paste!!!
We did a frog, grasshopper, bird, pig, fish, shark, sea urchin, squid, and a few others I can't remeber. But I didn't have to do the cat, so glad. And every bio class I had was right before Lunch, so we go from disecting to eatting.
It is hard for me to LOL We have to start the dissection then in the middle stop and go to lunch then come back and finish. It really was intresting to i had to think its body had a cause or i would get sad.
