O.K. - After being on this forum and understanding BYBs better I have to vent. I just went to a different website (the one where I found Gracie) and saw that the breeder has yet ANOTHER litter of pups by Gracie's dam. This makes 3 litters in less than 1 1/2 years (Gracie's included). She obviously just breeds for money which is really making me mad. Then I noticed that her other female (who has had 2 litters this year) is for sale and that she doesn't want her to be bred anymore. I am pretty sure that she is getting rid of her because her vet told her she couldn't have anymore litters - she is only two years old! I can't believe that I bought a dog from her to help continue this money making scheme! I am mad at her and at myself! I wish that I knew all of this before buying. Sorry, if I am rambling - just needed to vent!
WileyB - thanks. That really made me feel better. I honestly think that I have become a better animal lover because of this forum. Things that wouldn't have bothered me 5 years ago, REALLY irritate me now - bybs, pet store pups, puppy mills (which I didn't even know about) etc. You are absolutely correct - education is the key! Thanks.
BTW suebgone - The reason she won't have her spayed has to do with $$$$. It would cost a lot of it because they weigh so much. It really drives me BONKERS!
"Stop beating your self up. Live and learn is how I see it.
Education is pricless.
If I had known what my first husband was like I sure wouldn't have married him. LOL Live and learn."
Quote for truth. Very well said... Unfortunately, welcome to the club. Many of us have gone through that exact situation/set of emotions.
sue has it right with passing along what you've learned too. I see often that people don't understand why we become so passionate about such things. But, at the same time with all the passion and wisdom we gain(because it does come from well meaning intentions), we can be a bit abrasive.
That is when we need to grow and evolve yet again by reminding ourselves to take a step back and put ourselves in their shoes, to when it was us while doing so...
To me, that is admirable and you can see who is well on their way.
I don't understand breeders who sell their females when they can no longer breed. I will be retiring my Hazel after 2 more litters. I would rather cut off my right arm than let my girl go to some stranger! God what if they didn't have a Lane recliner for her! Or fed her something other than Canidae, and what about smooches and hugs. My girls are my doggy daughters, I love them so much, just the thought of losing them kills me!
