My puppy and I are in clicker training, these days. Today, we were doing our training and he was getting his regular yummy treats. About an hour after we finished working, he squatted like he had to poop. I took him outside and he let out a bunch of gas and then very watery diarrhea. I've been coaxing him to drink water all day since then and he's had two more diarrhea BMs after the first. The second two were progressively less watery. He's had all his shots up to this point (1 more set left) and he's been dewormed three times because he was a pound puppy. Any ideas?? Oh, BTW, one of the training treats I use, but not often, is processed American cheese. He did have that today.
Try giving him some rice, boiled chicken and pumpkin in your dog's food. You may want to use a generic food, like Pedigree, for a little while. Switch over slowly. It is less rich and easier on the system. *xoxo, FrostyGirl* http://www.photowow.com/r/contest.asp?p=vote.asp&c=156&i=17456 Vote for my Coconut!
Oh, do I understand! On the advise of my breeder I fed my litter of pups chicken liver at 5 weeks. I must have "overdone it" as within 20 minutes we had 10 puppies with the squirts! I made sure they stayed well hydrated , called the vet, gave the otc med, when they were still at it the next day, I had the vet come to the house and do exams and fecal checks (just to reassure my self it WAS the liver). The liver was too rich for them, the vet pronounced them healthy, put them back on the diet I'd had them on and said, "NO MORE LIVER"! I had a fun filled 3 days, cleaning up puppies, walls, floors........ The others are right about the feeding suggestions (they usually are~that's why I love it here).... One other thought, if it's hot where you are, cheese IS a dairy product, dairy can sour the stomach when anyone human or canine is hot.
My pup had the same thing and is the same age. When I went to the vet the vet asked if my pup was in a habit of picking up garbage along a walk. My pup does do this even though I make him release it. The vet told me that 'garbage gut' is common in puppies that are exploring the world through their mouths. He gave me some children's Amoxicillian (sp?) to give to my pup 3 x a day for a couple of days. It cleared it up the first day. The Amoxicillian smelled like bananna's and so did my puppies breath everytime he barked!
my pups do the same thing its usually something they ate as long as your pup is still eating and palyfull then he should be ok if he stops eating and lays around alot then you need to see your vet good luck hope he gets better
When my puppies have diariah i give a little immodium and nutrical-helps has vitamins they need, and pedalite keeps them from getting dehydrated. and try not to change the food to quickly over a time period yes but gradually. or they will get diariah.hope this helps kelly wise
