I am new to this board. I have 5 cats and they are getting older. I am also not a rich person so I can't pay high Vet bills. Is there any "list" out there that might give general quotes for things performed on a cat? I live in the NY area so maybe the Vet bills here are exceptionally high. I was also thinking of trying to find a Vet school to see if they would be cheaper. I took my cat for a "dental" and $700 later I am still upset. They pulled one tooth and gave me some story about how they had to perform all these other things. What I don't understand is this...when I go to the doctor for a cleaning and and tooth pulled, it comes no where near as much as they charged me for my cat. Do you guys know of any cheaper way to care for your pets, anything I should know that maybe I don't, or if there is a general guideline out there somewhere so next time the Vet goes to bill me I can show him the guidelines and just maybe he might come down in price a bit. Any thoughts or suggestions would be of great help to me. Thanks!
That is way too high I think. On a dog I had a dental and an inguinal (spelling?)fixed for under $300. I know that things are usually lower where I live but but thats outrageious. The best thing you can do is just call all the vets in your area and get quotes on stuff. Although you just had it done but call around to all the vets and ask what the general rate is for dentals. They will tell you they cant give you an exact quote because it depends on the individual but they can give you a good estimate. Pick the ones in your budget and see which one think is the best for quality of service.
Oh my I also think that is way to high. I had Henry and Cole dentals last fall and they where 25 dollars a piece. No teeth pulled or any problems.
Heck I had my teeth clean last week and it wasn't that much!!! Far cry from it! I would call around and ask vets what they charge and ask for a client reference list and check if they are any good or not.
