My dog just a litter of pups and the puppies are now about 4 weeks old and they have flea's. I am looking for a safe way to get rid of them that does not have alot of chemicals in it. So if you cane give me a little advise i sure would be grateful.
I would say get a helper, and while someone vaccuums the area where the pups and momma are.. and washes everything in room.. while they are doing that you take the pups and the momma and bathe them. A small amount of dawn dishsoap kills fleas on contact, extremely careful not to get soap/water in eyes or nose.. it can cause pnemonia in young pups. Do not do this regularly as I'm sure it can dry skin.. but the fleas are so bad this year It's the only way I've found to keep them down between flea treatments.
also you can get some old tshirts and some western red cedar bark. cut the tshirts, and put the batk inside tie them up. then place throughout your home, out of pups reach of course. this stuff is a natural insectcide. And vaccum daily. be sure empty the vaccum, they will get out.
fleas can give pups anemia. keeping the population down will curb this. the dish soap will suffocate the fleas.
also you can make flea traps, by placing a small bowl with a desk lamp shining down on it. the fleas are attracted to light. place the trap next to the pups sleeping area. fill the bowl with some soap and water.
I believe a dog's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment he holds dear, is when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-with a ball in his mouth."
