My vet just quoted me 300 dollars to spay Karma. They are a high quality facility and don't even use stitches to close the incision (glue). I will be spaying her no matter what, but this is a bit pricey for me at the moment. Is there somewhere I can go for less without sacrificing the quality of care? Is it wrong to take her to a different vet for this one operation or are they all this expensive?
Wow!!! how big a dog is Karma? If shes a great dane, that would still be abit high (my akita cost $220 to spay because she weighed morethan 80 lbs) but still dang that's more than I've *ever* hear d of a place charging for spaying. Ask if that price includes pre-anesthetic testing. If your dog is small, that's outrageous. Most small dog spayings cost around $125 to 150.
I have no idea. But I'd seriously consider shopping around for a lower price if I were you. Getting a dog that small spayed at that cost, even with preanesthetic testing (which runs about $35 or 40 at my vet) is outrageous. Call up and ask what some other good vets in your area charge for it.
My regular vet did Lucy's spay and it costed us 125.00. She weighed about 20lbs. she also used the glue and the stitches underneath the skin, so I didn't see any stitches on the surfuce, and I was really happy about how smalll the incision was, but I think 300 dollars is way to much you probably can find a good vet that can do it for much less.
My vet does it for around fifty dollars. That is way too high for a routine procedure such as that. *Vote for my Coconut and join my forum!* http://www.photowow.com/r/contest.asp?p=vote.asp&c=156&i=17456 http://184.108.40.206/users5/furkid/index.cgi
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......think someone is screwing with you. Here in Illinois it is around $100.00. But it all depends on age, size, heat cycles (how many if any), and if she has had pups. My female has had 2 litters and it cost $120.00. I also had a coupon from the animal shelter for $40.00 which knocked it down to $80.00. They give out the coupons when your pet has it's rabies shots and is registered.
Here, in south Fl it usually runs around $125 for dogs 50 -90 pounds or so. You might also want to see if you can obtain a spay/nuter certificate and find a vet who will accept it. That will also reduce your expenses by a bit.
Also, sometimes, your local shelter/humane society can give you spay/neuter certificates to help lower the costs. When I had my cat done at my vet, she had a free spay(certificate) and it still ended up costing about $150.00, My dogs are both fixed but they were done at the shelter, came with the adoption. But my vet is really good and we would've paid more to use them just because they know us and our animals. I guess it just depends on what you feel comfortable with.
4 years ago my lab cost $350 to spay, she was 6 months. i found this vet to be rather expensive in a lot of things. so, i changed vets to someone who is great, but costing less. the old vet's office had beautiful stone tile floors, a fountain, plants all over the place, state of the art equipment; my new vet has school-type linoleum and plastic office chairs; i'm happier with my new one! look in the yellow pages and start calling around, find out prices.
It really IS based on your location, but Summergirl is right about the SPCA sometimes offering the spay/nuter discount certificates. I just can't remember where I got mine for Storm (my lab Black Lab). If you do a google search on spy/nuter discount + "your area" (city, state, it SHOULD bring up the local resources nearest you.
That is ridiculous!!! There are places, if you earn a lower income, that will alter your pet for free! Yeah, also look in the yellow pages. ---Allie the Chihuahua is mine!!! http://www.dogster.com/?41063 Wanna be pup pals?
$300 is a lot of money. I had my boxer spayed in April and it cost me $120 for the surgery and $12 for the pain shot. She was under 50 pounds at the time. I think she was actually 32 pounds. Jersey had a few stitches but they were the kind that disolved. She also came home the same day. I dropped her off around 8:30 am and picked her up around 2:00 pm. The Human Society where I live has a program called ABC (Animal Birth Control). Its for people who can't afford the high cost of spaying or neutering. If I can remember correctly, it costs $30 for a male and $60 for a female. All you have to do is contact them and they mail you an application. You send the application back and they contact you to let you know where you can take your dog to have it done. After the procedure is over, you send them the money.
no that is not a reasonable price to pay for spaying a westie. the only way that would be reasonable is if she had a pyometra. then i would think that is reasonable. call up an orginaztion called the friends of animals 1 800 321 PETS. you send them money, they send you a certificate and a brochure of participating vets in the area and you use that cert. to pay for the surgery.
