We recently moved to a new house with a backyard and my dog refuses to go to the bathroom in it. She has lived in places with yards before and done just fine, but for the past year we have lived in an apartment where I had to leash her everytime I took her out to pee. In this new house, she will not go in any part of the yard and I have to take her on a walk each time I want to let her go. The problem is timing mostly. While I don't mind walking her a lot, there are times (especially at night) when I just don't have time or can't easily take her for a walk. I tried putting some of her poop in the yard hoping that if she smelled it she would feel more comfortable, but that didn't work. Any other suggestions???
Try putting her on her leash and walking her around the yard until she goes. Do that for a while. Then try it without the leash, walking with her around the yard when she has to go. Then try just letting her out to do it herself. All gradually!
That might work and get her used to the idea that she doesn't have to have the leash on to go to the bathroom. I don't think it has to do with the yard, but the leash and activity associated with pooping!
