My cat on 06/07/07 had three little kittens. I never in my life had a cat, I accepted the cat in my house because I have no children and felt lonely. She is an exellent adorable cat, very good company. I use to let her go out, because she will meow to the door, so I let her go, and since she always came back, well, I kept doing it. One day she left home and didn't came home for three days, which was so strange to me. I looked for her in the neighborhood and didn't found her so I gave up looking. One day my boyfriend went to his friend's house and heard this cat meow to him really hard. He looked up to a three and saw my lil' cat freezing in the snow on the tree. Well, he brought her back home, she was freezing and the look in her eyes were so sad. As time went by, my cat was gaining weight, so I guess she was just eating too much, so I reduced her meals. On June 07, she starting making funny noises and was following me too much. She screamed and looked desperate. My boyfriend starting saying that cats act like that when they are preagnant. I was so desperate because I didn't know what to do. And also I tought she was a male, and I told him it was impossible for her to be preagnant. To see if she was, We put her in a storage box with towels and then she started pushing and the lil' kitties started coming out, oh, it was so nasty. I even cried because I have never seen nothing like that. I even took pictures and I still can't believe that my lil' Mitchu was preagnant. The next day she took the lil' kittens and put them in my closet. I put the kittens and Mitchu back in the storage box, but she meow really hard and put them back in the closet. I have decided to let her in there. I check all the time to see if the kittens are OK. Well, now, the closet has this certain bad smell, and I can't seem to find a way to get the kittens and Mitchu out of there.

Is there a way I could get them out without her getting mad at me?

I can't keep all of them, so when is the right time to give them up?

Am I allowed to touch them?

How do I know if they are male or females, so i could take precautions next time?

What stuff I need to buy for them?

Please help me out, I will get rid of two and I'm keeping one and I really need to know the answers for this questions before taking that step. Also I will like o named them, please give name suggestions.

What did the vet recommend when you contacted them?

I have not taken her and her kittens to a vet, because I have no money to spend like that. But I take care of her really good and her shots are up to date and all. She looks fine to me, but I will like this questions answerd by people who went through a similar situation like this.

I am surprised if she is up to date on shots, that the vet didn't tell you it was a female. Anyway, you don't have to do anything yet. She will take care of them. The reason she is hiding in the closet as she wants privacy. Supply her with a litter box, as she will not leave the kittens, and you don't want her going outside NOW!! She may go out and not come back (because of something terrible happening to her) You don't want to be stuck with little babies, then you will be in trouble. No matter how much she meows at the door, do not let her outside. The babies need her more. So I repeat, do not let her outside!! Give her privacy in a room that is quiet. Give her a good kitten food. The babies will suck the life out of her, and she will lose a lot of weight. So feed her something like Iams kitten food, or Science Diet, you will need to spend more money on it, but she will need the nutrition as well as the babies. The kittens will start experimenting with eating around 4 weeks old. Start them with wet food, you can mix crunchies with water to moisten it, till they get used to chewing. Do not give her any milk. It will give her loose stools, you can supply special cat's milk found in the pet food isle if you want, but water will be just fine. Make sure to have a smaller litter box for the babies. If your box is too high,they will not be able to climb into it, and then you will have accidents on the floor. Sometimes I will take a phone book and make a step for them to get into the box. Also, once the kittens are around 4 weeks old, the mother can go into heat again. If she goes outside, she will become pregnant again, and again. So best thing to do is contact your local humane society to see if they will help with her surgery of the spay cost for you. There are plenty of organizations that will help out with the cost of surgery. If she is a friendly cat, she will allow you to hold the kittens. If they start to cry, see how she reacts, she will know if you mean to hurt them. They should be handled by humans to become friendly cats later. So again, good food, lots of love and attention, NO OUTSIDE!!

OH Boy, you HAVE to take your cat to the vet to have her spayed or a few months from now she will do the same thing. They will have 3 to 4 litters of kittens per year.

Yes you can move the kittens and the mother cat so you can clean the closet. Yes you can play with the kittens.

What will happen to the baby kittens is that they will be taken to the shelter and in two weeks be killed.

This will happen over and over unless you spay your mother cat and NOW spay/neuter the baby kittens. You can try to find homes for them once they hit 8 weeks old.

Make sure you tell the people that adopt the kittens that if they don't spay/neuter they will have more kittens and then more kittens will die. This will not stop until you spay her. Please save up your money or the kittens will keep coming.

Male cats also have to be neutered or they will spray a terrible smell in your home.

My Cole kitty went into heat when she was 6 months old. What a night mere for her and I. The UPS guy came and opened the door and she was out of the house like a rocket. I did get her back into the house and She was spayed 10 days later.

I have always had male cats, neutered of course, so I learned the hard way with my Cole kitty.

YOU HAVE to take her to the vet, ASAP.

Thank you guys so much for your advice. I did spay all the kittens, but not my cat yet. She still need more time until she is ready to be spayed. In the meantime, I do not let her to go outside, NO WAY. I am still waiting for them to get older to give two away for good homes. I am staying with one of them, can't decide which. They are very playfull and so much fun to have, and very hard work. She did came out of the closet, and also the kittens are allready running all over my apartment. I have learned so much from this experience. Thank you again, ya really helped me a lot.

The kittens are not even 1 month old, and you already had them spayed? I have never heard of spaying a kitten that young, and I worked at an animal rescue with over 400 cats! Somehow, I'm having my doubts about this story...

I have to agree with Catlover. There is no way kittens that are less than a month old can have been spayed. It's not even safe to put babies under anesthesia. They have to be at least 6 months old. She didn't even know how to tell the sex in the first post and even if they really were all females, the cost for 3 spays would be a lot. Maybe she is confused about what spay means?

Well if the Mother of the kittens is friendly with you,then you can touch the kittens.Be careful,don't handly them too much.
Give them away (If thats what you want to do)at about 7-8weeks.They'll feed of their Mother for the first 3weeks.After that you can feed them something soft.
