Probably some of you know, and may even have been there, but this weekend is the national UKC Premier show held in Kalamazoo, MI.
I entered my girl 'Tess' for the boxer specialty held in the evening. She turned a year old last week. It was her first show, I have never really taken her to class other than once to watch, while I worked with Paris.
I knew I was going for a few weeks, so I wanted her crated for a few weeks, so she wouldn't get marked up--by other dogs, or bugs or from playing. My husband is an idiot some times and he let her out with about 5 other young dogs to play last week and she came in with a huge chew mark under both sides of her neck. Nothing deep, just from playing, but they left red scabs.
I was embarassed of the marks, and scared to show in general, so I about didn't go--but I had pre-entered. Tess's sire's owner was also going and she wanted company. I thought, what the heck, it will be practices.
I came way too early, because there was no set time. We arrived about noon. The show ended up starting at 7:30 pm.
It was scary with all the people staring in the ring. That was only my second time showing. I didn't want to do any thing stupid and I didn't want my dog to do any thing stupid.
We went in the Junior female class-- and won against competition.
We went in the Winners Female class-- and won against competition.
We went in the Best of Winners class-- and she won AGAINST HER FATHER who took winners dog (AND HE IS AN AKC CHAMPION!)
We went in to the best of breed and she was beat by a Grand Champion Dog.
We had a VERY good day and people (besides the judge of course) really liked Tess. She is probably 4 shows away from her title after last night.
Just mentioning this, not as much for congratulations, because the win by a judge is reward enough--*
BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE ME. Not only were you guys rude, but just plain wrong.
In 10 years, I do know what I am doing. I have a 'good eye', and weather or not I show, does not mean that I don't have ring worthy dogs. Two of my three generations of home bred dogs are AKC Champion sired and are close to standard.
Are they all ring-worthy? Maybe not, I guess that is why they call it 'selective breeding'. Bred to the right Champion, I don't have a bitch that could not produce something ring worthy.
Congrats on the win(s)!! Having a little proof of quality comes in handy when you want to tell people to F off ;)
I do not support purposeful mutt breeding but it does not make you the scum of the earth. Far from it infact. Personal attacks are highly disrespectful, your husband has nothing to do with anything you posted. Guess some people don't know how to control the huge b*tch inside of them!
I was there which dog was yours, you probably saw me I was only person that had bought a baby with them. Very pretty dogs. I am glad you did so well, You thought people were mean, they weren't to bad to me but I didn't bring a dog, because I had my daughter.
Thank you to those of you are sincere. I know that there are a few that have a grasp on reality.
I don't care if some of you don't think I am a 'good breeder', because I raise PETS, mixed or purebred. They are pets. The people who adopt the puggles love them just as much as the people who get the boxers. All the puppies get the same excellent care BECAUSE MY HUSBAND AND I STAY HOME WITH THEM 24/7.
I don't know if I would want to purchase from a breeder that had to 'work' and leaves the puppies home alone for 8 hours a day (not knocking any one that does-- it's your personal business).
Think about this though: Weather permitting, I let my puppies outside 8-12 times A DAY from the time they are 5-6 weeks old. They aren't crapping on papers, most have an EXTRODINARY jump on house training by the time they leave at 8 weeks-- That is so important to pet families.
I know that certain people on here will not like me for 'mixed breeding'. I really don't care. There are new breeds showing in UKC that were only formed 20 years ago. Some one started them too.
Puggles are intended to be pets. That is what they are. People are going to purchase them because they ARE BETTER PETS THAN MOST PUREBREDS-- and WAY cuter to boot. I am just giving people a better alternative than going to a pet store or puppymill. All my puppies leave micro-chipped with a lifetime return policy. I take responsiblity for the puppies I raise, and in MY OPINION: That is all that matters, and I really don't care about the opinions of too many others.
Right now I am pretty amazed at the wonderful group of dog friends that I have made over the last few years. Most of them have been raising and SHOWING dogs for 30-45 years. Longer than I have been alive. They don't consider themselves my mentor (except in ring matters), but more of a peer. I feel honored when they ask me for advice in what I am doing as a SUCCESSFUL BREEDER. There opinions are what matter most to me.
They all know about the puggles, and they love me anyway, because they know I care for my dogs.
Boxercorps-- Thanks I am going to try to make it to some more shows over the next few months I will let you know if I am going for sure. I also have another 7 month old I may just bring out for fun. She's a brat though. Oh and please don't think that any one from the Boxer show was mean or rude. NEVER. Just people on here that are idealistic and really really unrealistic about the 'dog world'.
Boxers are like cookies you can't have just one :)
Oh and not that it is any one's business, since every one thinks they know every thing about my life, my husband has NEVER not had a job, he has always worked part time, but he did lose his full time job last year.
Sorry that he doesn't need to have 1.5 jobs any more for us to be comfortable. Hope that makes people 'feel better'.
Sorry I have such a great time being home with the kids and dogs, and LOVE raising puppies.
The only reason I come on here occasionally and take the abuse from the ignorant people on here is that THEIR OPINIONS SHOULD NOT BE THE ONLY OPINION HEARD. THEIR WAY IS NOT THE ONLY WAY THAT IS CORRECT.
People keep trying to compare every one to their 'ideal' breeder, and that is just not reality, at least I give a glimpse of truth and what really goes on. Like it or not.
Boxers are like cookies you can't have just one :)
boy you guys never stop do you!!! why don't you guys get a life. there is more to life then putting people down. this is suppose to be about learning and all I have learned how to do is put people down, and call everyone back yard breeders. So if I were you guys I would never own an dog or cat because they probably where from a back yard breeder and since you don't want to support them then you shouldn't own a dog then either. I don't think anyone would ever live up to you guys standards period. Wouldn't matter what they did!!
Boxercorps- As I recall, Ali did start the issues herself. If she would not have made the flip the bird comment, I doubt that most people would have had anything but congratulations for her. It is obvious she just enjoys the controversy and attention she gets.
I disagree... Certain elements would have made a disparaging remark eventually, with or without the flippant flipping comment. I am guessing you forgot about how Lovebug merely posted cute puppy pictures and it became a nasty hatefest? I would call the bird flipping something of a pre-emptive strike.
Anyways, saying you don't like how someone runs their breeding program is one thing, but calling them irresponsible, idiotic, or taking a jab at their family is totally different.
People that breed mutts, when thousands of mutts, and purebreds, including thousands upon thousands of wonderful Beagles die in shelters everyday, are irresponsible. Theres no nice way to put it, sorry. Actually, I'm not sorry.
If you actually had a passion for the pug or beagle breeds, you'd not be mixing them. Do you even show your pure pugs and/or beagles?
http://www.ashleyspets.com "A dog is not almost human, and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such.
Except Illini, the two posts you are comparing are quite different. Lovebug posted puppy pictures. Half of ali's thread was aimed at being snide and childish. Lovebug wanted to show off her puppies. Ali wanted to get a rise out of people, therefore directing more attention her way. I don't even know why I am responding, because it is obvious that she enjoys it entirely too much. LOR and Ruffian were not calling her husband inappropriate names. They were stating a fact. Neither Ali or her husband work. I would assume that means that they are living off of the profit money they make from their dogs.
"People that breed mutts, when thousands of mutts, and purebreds, including thousands upon thousands of wonderful Beagles die in shelters everyday, are irresponsible."
That's a load of BS. You could just as easily argue that "People that breed purebreds, when thousands of purebreds [...] die in shelters every day, are irresponsible." You bought two purebreds. Why didn't you adopt two dogs? If you would have adopted two dogs instead of buying them, there might just be two fewer DEAD ex-shelter dogs.
And more hypocrisy... You have said yourself that the breeder you purchased your dogs from now breeds mutts. Guess you didn't do your homework? And to think that you actually considered for even a second breeding your replacement female, knowing the insane number of issues your first dog has, boggles my mind. I don't think you are qualified to criticize a breeder for their practices and choices. I'm not either, but I don't pretend to be knowledgeable about breeding.
Oh yeah, and Alicat just stated that her husband works part time and recently lost a job. Did you not read that? And I really DO NOT UNDERSTAND how that is anyone's business anyhow!
