He was an old used dog when I got him at age 13. When the Mill was busted he was living with several other older dogs that they were allowing to starve to death, he had the tag number 3030 and records indicated that he was 12 or 13.
The shelter had him down as one of their first to be put to sleep, I was helping euthanise dogs. This little guy gave me his paw, the vet and I nearly started crying, how could we kill a dog who wanted to shake our hands? I know it was silly anthromorphising but he lived another happy five years, although the last three he has been completly blind and deaf.
Sorry I'm babbling.. I miss him.
A cat by any other name... is still a sneaky little furball who pukes on the sofa.
Poor baby to live such a terrible life for 13 years. And then what a lucky one to be saved by you and given a great last 5 years - knowing what it's like to be a part of a family and to be loved and cared for.
5 yrs is an eternity to a dog in dog years. There are so many dogs that would pee all over themselves to have one week in a loving home. That is so neat that your little dog got that chance. So many of the Senior dogs die before they can have a chance at life.
What a lucky dog to have you for the last 5 years of his life. I know you helped replace all those sad years before with a wonderful, loving, happy life.
I know that it's never an easy decision to make or deal with. Sometimes it is the only decision that is right for the pet we love. I'm sorry for your loss, but am happy you had the time to know and love this little guy and for him to know and love you.
"Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful".
