I dont even think i spelled it right... But I noticed another nail growing on my Cali's right paw. I called the vet and she said it was her dew claws and big dogs usually have them removed, but it was not mandatory... Does anyone know anything about this?
Actually it's more common for small dogs to have their dew claws removed than large dogs. I'm pretty sure it's common practice to remove dew claws on both poodles and shihtzus. Did your puppy have it's dew claws removed before? (the breeder would have had this done one-three days after birth). Sometimes dew claws can grow back. A friend of mine has a yorkie and one of his dew claws grew back so she had it removed when he was neutered. I would recommend having it removed because it can catch on carpet and break or tear. It's just easier not to have them. It's best to do it when you spay or neuter your puppy since it will already be put under.
I believe all breeds should have at least the hind leg dewclaws removed. They can easily get caught on something when they are jumping up or climbing on things and get ripped out. Some of them, barely even seem to be connected to the leg bone. When spaying her have them removed. My youngest poodle has all four removed. Less nails to clip too.
Caliprincess, are your from California? Or is your dog named Cali?
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
