Here's something I've always wondered, just what do you breeders do when the whelp is all night to stay up??? Or, anyone else have some good ideas? No smart butt answers LOL. Being I have a couple of litters due, no doubt they will make me stay up all night, ideas/thoughts are welcomed
They whelp in my room so i can put their pen right next to my bed and just lay over the edge watching her or doze inbetween puppies. Its not hard to stay awake though. You watch intently for each big push! I've never had one in labor for more then what 4 hours i think so i've been lucky, i've never had to do in ALL nighter!
Savannah, I breed Bostons and so far, have not been kept up all night, although close to it. I usually try and have someone with me, in case I have a puppy that I need to pay extra attention to. It always helps for moral support, and I've never had trouble staying awake, because I'm always so excited to see who's next! Good luck with your babies.
Pen, i think i received a pm from you but was not able to pm you back, tried. I've been doing this for years and yes I do stay awake but as I age, staying awake is more difficult HAHAHAH... thought it would be fun to get some cool ideas.
Savannah, Aside from getting someone to come and keep you company, the only cool things I can think of to keep you awake would definitely distact you from the task at hand! You could rent a couple of hilarious movies, and get yourself a pound of chocolate covered coffee beans,to chow down in between puppies and coffee. Maybe you'll luck out, and your dog will surprise you and start whelping at 9a.m.! I'll be interested to hear how you make out.
I hope all goes well for you. I was blessed enough not to have to deal with the night time litters. I only had one that went late into the night. It's the weeks after, when I can't sleep for worrying about them. ( and wanting to be next to them, because they are soooo adorable.) What kind of dofgs so you have? Mine are chinese shar peis.
