My first question is in re to my first chihuahua (Jack)... I have had him since he was 8 wks old, he is a very wonderful, playful, loving and protective dog, one most people would love to have. My problem is with potty training...he will use puppy pads but I've noticed that he will go to a certain bed and poop, every chance that he gets. I have no idea why he is doing this, esp with it being just the one and I can't break him of this bad habit for nothing in the world. If I catch him at it and try to remove him, he'll get mad and snippy (but will not bite). Has anyone else had this problem before? I was thinking that maybe the certain person, who the bed belongs to, has pissed him off in some way, but I don't know, lol. The other question with Jack is that he's a horny little thing, lol...he's even tried to get ahold of my neighbors cat, lol...and now, I just got a new 8 1/2 wk old female chi (Jill) today and he won't leave her alone at all! He will bark like mad if I pick her up and walk away with her, like he's afraid I'm getting rid of her or something. It's funny, but at the same time I'm afraid he's really going to get her and I know that she's too young for any of that. Should I keep them seperated until she's old enough or what? I've read everything I could find on this breed, but nothing that will help with these problems. I'm just hoping that there's someone out there who's had the same probs with this. Any advice is appreciated...even for things other than what I posted!! I guess I should also mention that this is my first time raising this breed, I've always been a "big" dog person and this is a totally new experience for me! Thanks, Shell
these puppies should have stayed with their mothers & litters until they were 12 weeks old. that is what responsible breeders do. no offense, I'm sure they are adorable. it just often causes behavior problems when they are taken away to early.
you don't say how old he is but you should be able to get them both neutered at 5 months unless they are very small
Thanks for replying...I questioned that myself after I had gotten them (about staying with their mothers), but didn't know until lastnight. Jack is 7 mo old by the way. As I said, he is a really very good dog and had started this potty thing not too long ago. He uses a pad, and does very good with it, except for the instances I mentioned. I can close the doors but as soon as the particular one is opened he's in there doing it before I can stop him. Every once in awhile he'll sneak into my step-sons room (he doesn't care for him too much at all), but the main room belongs to my children, who he absolutely loves to death, but they are not here all the time and I thought that maybe he done that as a way to show resentment at them going back home. I should also say that he does not do this when they are here.
