I have a 6 year chow?/Sharpei?/lab mix and a hot spot came up on her face just this past weekend. She has never had them before. The vet gave her a pedisone shot and some cream to put on her face. Is there any way to prevent them? Also she will not let me put the cream on. I have to muzzle her and still I do not get a lot on the spot. Any suggestions on how to put it on her?
You might try a homeopathic treatment. This is how it works make yourself a cup of hot tea. Let the tea bag cool but stay moist and wet. Then after the tea bag has cooled to the touch hold it to the hot spot on your pet. Hold it there as long as you can. You will need to do this several times a day.
How it works the tanitac acid in the tea leaf will cause the hot spot to dry over a period of several days and will cause it to clear up.
There is also an ointment. Sorry don't know the name that you can get at chineese type homeopathic stores. My homeopathic vet call's it red goop. It will stain you skin and clothing so you want to be careful not to get it on you.
You could also use comfry. This is made with mariogold leaves and flowers works good on minor cuts and abrasions and rashes. Promotes healing and works very fast.
