my mini schnauzer does not have fleas. I used sergents flea and tick control product to prevent the problem from starting. That evening my poor dog started itching . He hasn't stopped yet even though I gave him a bath. Could he be allergic to this product?
I have schnauzers too but first off (imo)I would not buy anthing Sargents puts out. Try a really good oatmeal shampoo and I have used witch hazel and vinager on spots that are itchy. Avon's Skin So Soft is good too. You can dilute it and mist them inbetween baths and it helps with the itchies. Good luck, schnauzers can be itchy little buggers.
Never use flea collars. Some dogs have been known to die or have really bad allergic reactions because of them. Schnauzers tend to get the itchys and these little pimply things called sebacous cysts. I have read to use Benzyol peroxide shampoo for dogs. Poodles can get them too. We have been using that shampoo on a foster and his skin has gotten better.
Whoever said you can't buy happiness, must have never owned a dog!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to visit this site ---> http://www.pestbomb.com regarding any chemical controls. Not all chemicals are available in all areas. You can get flea infestation in your home without owning a pet. The fleas get carried in on socks and pant legs. Ticks can drop down out of trees onto you when you are mowing grass or working in the yard.
I use Adams Flea and Tick shampoo on my dogs and puppies. On the adults, I use the Adams spot application product. I don't have too much of a problem with fleas or ticks but the flies really harass the dogs during the warm months. The Adams stops this too. Both work very well and are available over the counter.
I have used these two products for years with no adverse effects on my dogs.

We don't have much of a problem with ticks. My understanding is that the Ivomec we administer each month helps with that and we give Comfortis for fleas. The best flea and tick shampoo is blue Dawn dishwashing liquid. Gets rid of them and makes coats shiny and smooth...also helps keep them off.

You should wash your pup again and maybe even give your a vet a call to see what they have to say. A lot of very nasty reaction's to that and other OTC type flea and tick meds though that one seems to be very high on the list. You can find more on a search as well but I can't seem to get it to come up on complaintsboard right now for some reason. Very long list there. http://www.hartzvictims.org/2009/02/21/sergeants-silver-flea-tick-squeeze-on-dont-use/
