I just gave my dogs their monthy Wornshield pill last night and this morning one of them pooped roundworms! How do I get rid of them? I've been reading on the internet that the eggs don't really go away and can be transferred to humans. I have a 4 year old and 1 year old daugther and am concerned for their safety since they play with the dogs and in the same yard the dogs go poo. My dogs had no signs of worms; eating good, gaining weight, etc., so I had no idea. I want to get my dogs healthy and rid of the worms. Any sugesstions? Also, is it easy for humans to get these and should my daughters be tested? My dogs are 8 months old., and they have had all their dewormers from the vet as well. Thanks for any help!
what exactly does "wornshield" cover. I googled both worm & wornshield & got nothing. you should not be giving any wormer without knowing what the dog has. if the dog has nothing - you don't worm it. you don't worm dogs for intestinal parasites monthly
the puppy is getting rid of the rounds.
good idea to get a fecal done but be sure to tell them what you have given & what it is supposed to treat.
getting on HW preventative would be an excellent choice
Sorry, I meant Wormshield. I got it from the vet, and they told me to give it once a month to prevent worms. I've called the vet and they did say to do a fecal, but since I wormed them, I would have to wait about two weeks. So I'm glad they are going to be fine, my only other concern is for my daughters. We do wash hands, and hose the backyard down, but then they also have been running around barefoot and always playing in the backyard, so now thinkging back, I wonder did I clean up enough, wash hands enough, did the girls already get them from playing barefoot. I'm not very knowledgeable about worms and how to get them and I just want to know am I being overly concerned or is there a likelyhood my children could have gotten them. We have had our dogs for about 5 months, and they have been wormed by the vet, but it seems they could have had them the whole time. Please advise, and thanks again for all your responses! If I look on the internet I just get freaked out since most articles I read say children can go blind, liver failure, etc. from roundworms, but don't really say how hard it is to get!
dukedaisy, the questions you are asking are standard questions my clients ask about and I give information on. You are not being over protective and no you are not over reacting ONLY because you just dont have the information yet. The chances of your kids getting worms are pretty slim to none. Can it happen, yes anything in life is sometimes possible. I get the feeling your doggies and kids are very well taken care of, you are doing the things you should be. You can relax. If you would like to PM me directly I can give you more information. Also, when we run around barefoot on lawns and other's property etc.., more of a chance to pick something up that way. You guys are fine. :-)
