Somewhere in the vast area of my brain where useless info is stored, I remember something about potassium being the main cause of charley horses. Try eating bananas - high in potassium. I get them so bad someitmes in my calf that it hurts to walk the muscles are so sore. Good luck.
I get them in the arches of my feet on occasion. I've tried bananas and it didn't seem to help. Shoving my foot against a wall gets rid of it after a bit. Both my mom and my step-mom swear that a bar of regular soap under the top sheet at the foot of the bed solved the problem for them. I guess I'm not that desperate yet though.
I got those all the time when I was pregnant; they are horrible!! I know that increasing your potassium intake does help to aleviate the problem. If you don't like bananas, you can try raisins or apricots. I think the skin of a baked potato is also loaded with potassium. I found that they would go away reallly quickly if I just forced my foot flat down on the ground. Good luck!
Leo thanks to you and BD. I am almost to the point of trying the bar of soap.
Iused to get them something awful when I was pregnant as well Leo. I know thats not the reason I ge them now, LOL
Apricots I love, as well as baked potatoes, between that and the bar of soap. Maybe I will have some luck. Found on the internet under "Charleyhorses" stretching excercises I am also going to try. Thanks you two!!
I get them in the arches of my feet, and ankles sometimes. You can just see the muscle get huge and tight. What you do, when they happen in your feet/legs is pull or bend your foot back towards you.. It takes the pressure of the muscle and almost instantly goes away. When you're having a charley horse it might seem impossible, but if you can force yourself to do it.. It works.
