I have a calico cat who has 6 toes, and she had 1 litter so far. The kittens are in demand & I've had a few requests for one of the kittens. They are the clumsiest cats ever though, always jumping up on something, and then falling! Mine are 6 toed and long haired; so very adorable.
I have never seen a 6 toed cat or any other animal. I`m 16 (shouldn`t of said that, now i`m going to get jumped on for being one of those young teens who don`t know something) I guess i will have a chance to see one once in a life time. lol.
He is ur friend, ur partner, ur defender, your DOG. You r his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful & true, 2 the last beat of his heart. You owe it 2 him 2 be worthy of such devotion
Yeah I've seen alot, my cousin has 1 male which bred with my grandma's cat, and every single kitten had OVER six toes on every foot. My cousin has kept a female calico from the litter, she has eight toes. Both are fixed.
This kitten seems very sweet. He has six toes on each of his paws. It is the strangest looking thing. Seems to be a little clumsy and off balance. The thumb like finger has a extra beside it. Will try to get a picture of it on soon. Thanks for the input.
I thought the whole 6 toed thing was very strange. I found a add for a 6 toed cat last night. Almost looked like the person selling the cat is proud of this defect since the kitty with more toes is much more $$$ than the others. People have bred some strange things into cats as desirable traits. Didn't I see something about a strain of cats being bred that don't have back legs or something like that? They just rolled around or pulled themselfes about. I might be wrong but I swear I remember something along those lines. I'm a dog person so don't know to much about cats but if I had a dog with extra toes on all it's feet (not a dew claw, that's different) That would be a birth defect and would not breed again. Any way here is the link to the add maby the person selling this cat can give you more info on the extra didgets! https://breederinfocenter.com/index.php?a_id=20070713155645
redangelbordeaux, it is a misconception that a cat born with extra toes is defective. The cat is known as polydactyl, and it is an anomaly resulting from a dominant gene, just like the gene for tabby stripes. It is not a defect, but there is another type of polydactyly which definitely is deforming, and it's called radial hypoplasia. These cats have defective arms (radius) or legs, if you like, and are affected in varying degrees of severity. You can easily put a stop to breeding cats with radial hypoplasia, by X-raying the cat that you want to breed, (this cat will be polydactyl) and have the vet determine whether the cat's radias is completely normal. The only way to end up with a cat suffering from radial hypoplasia, is to breed a polydactyl cat who carries the RH gene. I have 1 female polydactyl and she's the cutest cat , and the clumsiest cat I've ever seen.
UPDATE:---Ernest Hemingway Museum in Key West , Flordia is home to more than 60 cats that are six toed. Normal cats have five front toes and four back toes. Most of his cats are polydactyl , which means they have extra toes.It is very interesting . The web site is www.hemingwayhome.com if you are interested. Ernest Hemingway was given a six toed cat by a ships captain .
I used to have one. It looks like the have thumbs they are so cute. But mine ended up getting sick and died. I think the lady who I got her from lied because she was always small and runt like. She always fell off everything. GOOD LUCK :-)
I had a few cats with 6 toes on each paw(front and back). The cats were all white except for a dark spot that looked like an A on the forehead. The first white 24 toed cat we had we named HESTER. Friends who saw Hester's white kittens really liked the thumb looking toe on each paw and were eager to have one. We bred Hester with Manfred, an all white TOM. Someone told me these 6 clawed cats were common place in Boston.
