Saw packages of recalled Dingo-Brand Chicken Jerky on the shelves of two local stores - after this product had been recalled for potentially having salmonella. I let the store managers know - please, if you see recalled food on the shelves, bring it to the attention of the store manager.
My two Yorkies became seriously ill after eating Dingo Brand Chicken Jerky. While waiting for the cultures, they were treated for potential salmonella. Dogs would not eat, lethargic, diarrhea, etc - treated inpatient at Vets for days on IV fluids, meds, etc. Cultures came out negative - and please know that according to the gold standards of microbiology that salmonella in the prescence of other organisms may be negative AND YOU COULD STILL HAVE SALMONELLA POISINING. Dogs suffered terribly, family suffered terribly watching our 3 & 6 pound dogs suffer. Cost several thousands of dollars - and the company offered to reimburse only a few hundred. I will never trust this company again or ever buy any Dingo brand product. Still so upset this happened ... and get madder when I think about pet food companies caring more about the bottom line than the health/safety of innocent pets.
I Posted about this a couple weeks ago, but we just sent in a small rawhide bone (the one with the chicken jerky wrapped around it) to be tested. We are still waiting on results from the company. My coworker's dog became very ill a couple days after eating one - was in the hospital for a week throwing up, wouldn't potty, lethargic. She still throws up almost every time she eats. My dog also threw up and had diarrhea a few days after chewing on one (i don't normally give her rawhides but my coworder gave her one from the package she bought). My coworker's other dog also threw up the night after chewing on one, as did one of her friend's dogs. We don't know if the Dingo rawhide is for sure the cause of this but we sent the bone back to the company for them to test it.
m13lucky - hope you have better luck with the company than I did. I'm so sorry that your dogs got sick after eating the Dingo Bones with the chicken jerky in it. Didn't know dogs were getting sick after eating this also. The company had posted that the product you fed your dogs was not affected - it's hard to keep track of all the information/recalls - I'm so glad I found this board. Hope your dogs are all doing better and give them a kiss for me.
i'm sorry about your babies!! i hope they get better really soon!! i know it's so hard to see your babies sick and especially when you feel helpless!!! i have been there and it killed me!! it's getting to be so hard to find good untainted food for our babies!! it's scarey to think that you might be picking up a can of puppy food and it could be fatal!! i try to keep up with the recalls on the food and treats but as you said it's hard to do!! good luck with your babies and give them my love!!!
Thank you for the heads up!! I wanted to say that this made me cry, because I am a YORKIE LOVER!! I used to have one as a child and I still go crazy everytime I see one.. In fact I am know for that all around the valley of TEXAS!I also wanted to say that my Schnauzers are only allowed to eat all natural food. I get it at a specitly store, I would like for you to look around your town for one and start buying there treats and dog food there. I think that they do not last as long, they have no preservites, but the dogs eat them so fast that who cares. I would rather pay the money to know that I am avoiding a potiental death of my pet.. Once aigan I am sorry that you had to go through this, I think that a lawyer is in your best interset, you and a group of people could change one companies way of producing there product, potentally saving thousands of 4 legged lives every where...:) Great Ideal to post this on here. I would have never known about those treats... Thanks.
This is Holly"s Mama. I am proud Owner of a new Mini Schnauzer, she was a rescue and is one year old, we have had her for two months. She never Barks. Not once. Why? Any answers will be helpful. I als
OMG i didnt hear about this at all- My dogs have every dingo treat they make, including the jerky which they eat daily i buy the huge bag, but they have all the treats that dingo makes because they like them and i buy them new ones every other day- How come this wasnt mentioned on tv or anyting and they are still being sold in stores? they havent been removed from petsmart i was just there 2 days ago and bought my dogs more dingo treats- Is it just the chicken jerky? gosh im so worried but they show NO signs of being sick at all- Bentley did have a upset tummy yesterday morning but i think he had a empty stomach it was the clear flemy stuff but was fine after. Is there a certain way to find out if the treats i have are the tainted ones? I am now freaking out, how can i get more info on this and how do i know if my dogs are ill? Can they be infected but be fine? is it bags of the jerky from certain states or all dingo jerky? wow i cant believe this, im serouis my dogs eat like 3-4 peices each a day of the dingo chicken jerky, they love it and i just gave them each 3 peices already this morning- UGHHH what do i do
The recall on the chicken jerky was around the first of april. I'm sure the jerky they are making now is probably fine. So far as the rawhide I'm talking about, there is no proof yet that it caused my coworker's dog to be sick - we are just checking it out because that was the only thing we could think of. Plus, salmonella doesn't cause all dogs to be sick. That's why raw diets are fine for dogs. Salmonella only makes some dogs sick.
tapettyjohn - Check the DINGO website - the chicken jerky has been recalled. STOP feeding this to your dogs - you can send the product back for a refund. Believe me, if your dogs were sick from this product - you would know it. My dogs became so lethargic, vomiting/diarrhea, would not eat - it was evident they were sick. I would never assume that because a product (that was recalled) and is now on the shelf is fine - could be that the recalled product made its' way back to the shelves. Bring any product of concern to staff and have them investigate.
I now only buy my Yorkie's food from a wonderful New England general store/feed store where they know animals and are familiar with brands/nutrition.
My dogs loved DINGO products, but considering how seriously ill they were after consuming Dingo Chicken Jerky (and the response from the company) I will NEVER do business with them again.
Also, Salmonella and E coli and the like. Is not as a deadly to them as it is to us. A company owned by a friend a mine that makes raw dog food, has tripe in it. The tripe was tested to have 175 times the allowed limit of E coli for human grade food. Thousands of dogs eat this stuff...Not one report of a dog even getting the hiccups. I feed my dogs raw chicken, eggs. I have seen my dogs eat dead animals at the beach and the park...and occassionly some poo. Dogs are pretty hardy animals. I do not think there is huge reason to panic for your dogs, It's yourself I would be worried about.
I believe a dog's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment he holds dear, is when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-with a ball in his mouth."
