Today my dog received the new 3 year distemper vaccine and is lethargic and when I tried to give her a treat she didn't rush to take it (I had to offer it to her 3 times - an unheard event). If the behavior isn't improved by tomorrow I will definitely take her in but just wondered if anyone else experienced something similar after their dog was vaccinated using the new vac?
One of my little female schnauzers is still on antibotics from her yearly check-up last week. They used the spray in her nose for kennel cough and made her sick. She has never had a problem before and I think sometimes they are over vaccinating our dogs. Scares me to death, because she was so sick and sounded like she was dying. She is doing fine now but I would take your baby back in. My regular vet has never used the spray, she always gives the injection. I know its scary when they feel bad like that, hope yours gets better. Also, I just happened to remember she had a lump on her little bo-hind. It had to be from one of the shots.
Yes, every blue moon I will have a pup react to a shot or hear from a client their pup had a reaction. Most of the time this is due to a lower immunity reacting to the live virus. Children can sometimes react to boosters too. Generally, as a pup develops immunity strengthens and it's never an issue.
Patch is correct, reiterating, when a pup reacts you should immediately call the vet to make him/her aware. There are many variables that play into a reaction in addition to what I said.
Cricket was fine today so I didn't take her in, but I'm going to continue to watch her. This is the first time Cricket has shown a reaction to any of her shots which is why I thought it might be the new vaccine. Before she had only received the yearly one, not the 3 year DHPP.
