It is with a very heavy heart that I write this post in an effort to prevent what has happened to us this week from happening to any of you. If you use or even have thought about using Hartz Flea & Tick collars please go to HartzVictims.org and read some of the information that is provided about the side affects of this brand of collar on both cats and dogs. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way! We just recently moved from Columbia, SC to the Santee Cooper Lakes in SC and of course I was out of the flea & tick collars that I normally use for my guys. For a quick fix I ran up to Wal-Mart and grabbed some Hartz Flea & Tick collars until I could order some more of the other collars. Well, about a week later is when everything started to go wrong. I returned home from a dinner at my brother's house to find our boy Pallones First Palmetto laying dead in the back yard. The only sign of anything was a trickle of blood coming from his nose. For the life of me, I could not figure out what had happened. He was as healthy as a horse! As we racked our brains about what had happened to our Uno, a couple of days passed when I went out to water the dogs to find Delilah, "Pallones Palmetto Temptation", with a nose bleed. Well, of course I called the vet immediately to get an appointment asap. I could not get in until the next afternoon. So, again we try to figure out what the heck is going on! Later in the evening, I go out again to water the dogs to find our first Mastiff we purchased seven years ago, Palmetto's Sir Maximus, walking very stiff like he had slept on his neck wrong. When rubbing his neck, I noticed the Hartz collar that I had place on him a few days earlier. That is when it hit me, it had to be the collars. That is the only thing that I had done different with these guys in seven years! Coincidence? I think not! We removed all of the collars immediately and went on the net to do some research. That is when we found the Hartzvictims.org site. Needless to say, the new small town vet was of no use whatsoever and we lost our boy Maximus this morning. So, shortly after placing Hartz collar's on my dogs I have lost two of my boys and had a girl with a unexplainable nose bleed. Again, coincidence........I doubt it? We are still waiting on some blood work to return, but I do not have very much confidence in those results. Just to be safe, please think twice before using that product on any of your animals! I am sorry for the long post! But if this will help save anyones pet it will be worth it! Thanks and rest in peace Uno and Maximus, my sweet boys!
P.S. From what I have read so far, they say it is a combination of the poisons used in the collars with the outside heat and temperature which intensifies the effect.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have heard so many bad things about Hartz products I don't know how they still have any products on the shelves. Their products don't work and they kill pets. I'm also confused why anyone used flea collars of any brand anymore...they don't work..and the drops you can get from your vet are so much better. I work at a grooming salon and I hate when a dog comes in with a flea collar. I eventually ahve to put the thing back on before it goes home and I hate having to touch them. I always immediately wash my hands.
I am so sorry. What a horrible, horrible thing to have to happen. I was overwhelmed at losing one but he was sick and your sitution was so uncalled for. This company ought to have to pay for all the deaths and suffering they have caused families. Its terrible you had to go through this and maybe like you said it might help someone else. Its getting to the point we can't trust anything we buy anymore. Again I just want to say how sorry I am that you had to go through this.
Thank you for posting that Mastiffluv. I do not use any of the Hartz products on my pets, but maybe your post will stop someone else from using them either. That is beyond heartbreaking. Even moreso with it happening to a breed that i love. My heart goes out to them.
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
I am so sorry to hear about your lost...you still have something to gain...you have to be strong for your girl...I am so sorry...I know what type of pain you must be going through...I lost one but to loose 2...I can't express how sorry I am...thank you for the information.
Mastiff, I have copied your information onto something i do with my clients as a learning tool. I am so so sorry for your loss. Please know that in this tragedy you are going to spare someone else from making the same mistake. Yes Dusty, I know you said that too LOL, seems I tend to say things as you do and sorry to repeat, you just post faster then me LOL. Seriously, I do believe in every tragedy in life there is good, no matter how long it takes to find it. In this, it's the education for others and the reality of the products.
