We have had a game hen and her two little ones in our next door neighbors yard and today in ours. They jumped our gate and why they are staying over here is beyond me. I don't know where they belong. Aren't they against the law in town? I am afraid my dogs will get them. Any suggestions how to get rid of these pests??
I don't think they are illegal here. You may try laying out some chicken feed and having it lead out of your yard. Put a large pile of it were you want them to go. Also you may try calling animal controll and see if they will come out and get them.
Oh, our animal control is a hoot. Well you know, you live in Mesquite. We live on the border of Dallas and Mesquite. Its up to you to do anything. Our animal control is on a constant coffee break I think. I don't know where they belong. I thought I was seeing things when I seen them next door. Then today, low and behold they are in our yard. With my luck they would eat the feed and come back. I hope they don't find the doggie door. LOL!! My gosh, I would have a heartattack.
here they charge a 50.00 deposit, which you get back when you take the trap in. I know that on the shealter database have chickens and roosters list every now and then. I am with you on the dog door. of course my dogs would get them before they made it to far in.
Any one that knows me, knows I am scared to death of chickens. Had a huge white rooster jump on me when I was growing up and I guess that did it because I am afraid of chickens and birds. I know-------it sounds crazy but everybody has their quirks. Mine just happen to have feathers. lol!
LOL Sandysbabies. I understand. My mom had some geese that were big and mean. When we would go visit, we always scoped out where they were and distance from the car to the front door, so we could calculate wether we could make it without getting attacked. They really disliked my one brother. I think they sensed that he was not an animal lover. He didnt quite make it a few times and got bit in his thigh and buttcheeks. My mom once made the comment that they never had many visitors out there. i was like ...geez mom , i wonder why ? !!!
If you are a dog and your owner suggests that you wear a sweater, suggest that he wear a tail.
We have both Mallard, and Wood Ducks that visit usually in early spring till about end of June. They actually come to eat the seed that spills from the feeder and there is a lake in back off another street.
The dog honestly does not bother them, the neighbors cats chase them, but the ducks fight back. If they are wild, here the authorities will not touch them, they tell you to take away the seed, they will eventually leave. So we just let them be and make sure our dog is not able to reach them. He totally ignores them, but we don't want to give him the chance to change his mind. Good luck
OMG Irish, I would die. I can't stand to see something hurt, even if it is these pests. We even had a rooster (fighting rooster) jump our back fence and come over in the yard a couple of years ago. It has to be someone on the street over from us that has them but we just don't know who. Tina stalked it like a cat, but she stayed back from it because it was bigger than her. I still think it should be against the law for people to have them in town and espically fighting them. Thats horrible.
sandysbabies, Are you talking about domesticated chickens? If you are,it should'nt be too hard to find out who's they are. If they're not, get some bigger kids to come and shoo them out of your place, I'm not sure what you mean by game hen.
No, these are not regular chickens. They are used in fighting. Thats why I thought fighting chickens were illegal to have in town. They don't stay in our yard all the time. They just kinda come and go. We put out some grass seed, and maybe thats why they came in our yard. Shoot, I don't know. I don't know anything about them except they are mean. Most people that fight them don't advertise they have them. The hen and rooster both are bigger than Tina. I haven't seen them today. Maybe they are pestering another neighbor. When I seen them in the next door neighbors yard the other day when I was leaving to go shopping, I thought I was seeing things.
sandysbabies,if they're fighting animals then I think you could call the cops if animal control are too busy stuffing their faces with donuts. These animals could pose a threat to you and your family; so it's worth a try. You could also try giving your local town office a call. Maybe they have a stray animal catcher.
Yuk!!! Mandy is a little pig, but I think she would even draw the line there. Haven't seen the feathered beast today maybe they have gone down the street. When we called animal control a couple of years ago about a pack of dogs running up and down our alley, we were the ones that had to trap them in a cage. They brought the cage out and it was up to us to do their work.
